Haven't seen 3 corner leeks

At the plot, made it to fix the trimmer, had a two hour go and two tanks of fuel, not finished yet.

Beans have survived a cold night, which is good. When putting them in the ground used what appears to be a very very large nail, off a wooden ship, who knows, to make a foot deep hole, to get through the weed suppressor, cardboard, then delicately insert the root up to the top. This way presumably the roots will stay in the wet, as it were.

Phew, so far. Am sitting in the shed having a cigarette.

I’m a little sick*, but I’m in the middle of making #lasagne for my better half when there’s a knock at the door.

Our #Sikh neighbours brought a tray of #pakora with a very #hot, #spicy #chilli sauce.

My better half gives me the pakora to eat as she & spicy hot don’t get along.

I have yet to find any #Punjabi food too hot, so the pakora is now eaten.

I don’t think I’ll have room for lasagne!

I guess I’ll have leftovers tomorrow. #Dinner

*I’ve been coughing up a lung most of the day.

Watching my habanero chilis grow is so calming and nourishing — it might just be my favorite way to cope with the outside world.

This little green bubble brings me peace and a whole lot of joy!🌶️

At the plot. It's raining in a variety of densities, no drizzle.
Stuff is growing despite the weather. Indoors, strawbs have gone mad and grow vertically .... well, so far.

Also various beans which will go outdoors later, still too cold for them.

Weirdly broadbeans are already flowering tho they're barely 15cm high.
I've bought a bag of them in a food shop and they originate from Iran, of all places.

Grapes are starting green shoots, lil carrots tops, leeks and garlic also. Spuds.

Nice.

Wow, this is amazing! It's April, and my habanero chili plants are flowering.🌸 I never thought I could overwinter them and have them bloom again, but here they are, proving me wrong. Aren't they gorgeous?! 😍

A collection of small terracotta and plastic pots containing young chilli seedlings . I put the pots in two stainless steel trays. The trays are outdoors in a sunny spot against a house wall. The pots contain two varieties of chilli: lemon drop and black heart. The small plants are just beginning to sprout, with a few leaves emerging.

Today's pick of chillies is for tonight's chicken gumbo. No okra, so I'll use eggplant.

Five green and six smaller orange habanero chillies in a white floral dish.

The Red Marconi and Jalapeno peppers, or chilies, are getting their first true leaves. The California Wonder 300 are all up 100% from last years bought seed, 100% dud on saved seeds. I'll have to make sure to grow one of them well into a non green color for seeds.

Gettin ready for summer #chilli

Here's the beginnings of my #fermented #chilli powder: it consists of a few different batches of fermented fruits and/or vegetables, with home-grown chillies as the main ingredient. I've got about 2 cups of the stuff, and I imagine I'll have something like 5 or 6 cups once I add the most recent ferment.

Looking into a large stainless steel bowl: on the left is a small, stainless steel funnel, and on the right is a dessert spoon. In the bottom of the bowl is a pile of pale orange, coarsely ground powder.

Speaking of chillies: one I bought from hammerbarn a couple of years ago billed itself as a "mild pumpkin habanero". It produces lots of these little yellow pumpkin-shaped chillies, packed *full* of seeds, no heat at all. But the flesh still has that lovely aroma and flavour of the habanero family. A couple of small ripe orange habanero for colour comparison.

14 little yellow pumpkin-shaped chillies and two quite small orange habanero chillies in a white floral bowl on a bright green Laminex bench.

Can somebody please help me identify these chillies? I bought the plant at hammerbarn last spring, and the ticket said orange habanero. Clearly that's not this! In the habanero family, sure, but not the basic orange common one. That yellow one is fully ripe, I let a couple of others stay on the bush longer and they rotted.

Edit: it's looking like they might be Ají Umba. Pretty close to common habaneros, and thankfully not the million-Scoville terrors that are Naga yellows. 🎉
