A view from above onto an experiment, surrounded by people looking at it, turning knobs, and pointing. The center piece of the experiment is a large flat dark plate with some amount of sand on it that collects in the node lines of the vibrations of the plate. Those vibrations are caused by a massive speaker sitting directly under the plate.

Implemented in #GNU #Octave using its #sparse #matrix eigensystem solver. I used a 5x5 kernel for the operator, based on the 3x3 Laplacian kernel convolved with itself, not 100% sure that this is the correct way to go about it but results look reasonable-ish.
