The "barnacle" is a relatively new parking violation control device that uses suction to attach to your windshield. To remove it properly, you’re supposed to pay a fee through an app.
Over time, people discovered that to remove the barnacle, all you need to do is turn on your car’s defroster for 15 minutes and then use a thin piece of plastic to release the suction around the edges.
Since the device has a GPS tracker that triggers an alarm whenever it or the car it’s attached to moves, the barnacle also comes with an integrated SIM card. A netrunner realized the SIM card had unlimited data and hacked it, allowing them to tether their personal phone to the network. This gave them free unlimited data for several months.
