UK users are asked to upload facial scans & passport photos to third-party firms for age verification.
Many operate overseas with poor track records. Strip metadata before uploading—remove GPS & device info that could identify you if breached.
Researchers in the School of Computer and Communication Sciences have released Anyway Systems, a new software that allows users to download open-source AI models and use them locally, with no need for data to be sent to third-party cloud services when AI is used to complete a task.
The system – now spun-off into a start-up - can be installed on a network of local machines with no data leaving the network, guaranteeing privacy and sovereignty.

In Nov., the Social Security Administration (SSA) quietly revealed (issued a SORN) the agency would be sharing “citizenship and immigration information” with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
This data sharing was already happening for many months - the Trump administration was already pooling sensitive data from across the government for the purpose of immigration enforcement.
The SORN makes the data sharing official and allows for public feedback. The SSA SORN has already received more than 10,000 comments, including, “No, absolutely not.
