I'm actually surprised it was only 11 House Dems in the current environment, especially with Mayor Bowser providing cover by proposing to repeal the sanctuary law. bsky.app/profile/jonathancohn.

Councilmember Christina Henderson introduces a charter amendment that would prevent a member of the DC Council who is expelled by their colleagues from serving for the 5 years following expulsion. If the council passes it, it will then be voted on by the electorate. Of course it won't affect the current Ward 8 situation.

As discussions heat up over the future of RFK Stadium, Mendelson could shift the entire narrative. Will his insights influence the DC Council and Mayor Bowser's plans for this historic site? axios.com/local/washington-dc/

"Few prominent people in local politics are comfortable discussing her age. But even by the increasingly gerontocratic standards of national leadership, Norton is old. Older than Joe Biden. Older than Trump. Older than Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and Bernie Sanders. Norton is the oldest member of the House. In the Senate, only 91-year-old Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley is older."

The vote on the stadium deal is supposed to happen by July 15, the day of the special election, so there won't be any Ward 8 councilmember to participate.

Free DC @freedcproject.bsky.social, 4 Mar 2025:

It would normally take months for a bill like HR 1774 to go through the full legislative process — *IF* it ever passed at all. We could have done absolutely nothing and no funding would have been at risk.

Instead, Mayor Bowser delivered Andrew Clyde's desired result in less than a day.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), known for his staunch fiscal conservatism, is making it clear: he’s a firm #NO on the #Republican #debt plan.

In a C-SPAN interview, #Massie dismantles the party’s own talking points, revealing that even under the most optimistic assumptions, the proposal adds hundreds of billions to the #deficit in the coming years. According to Massie, leadership’s numbers show a $328 billion increase in 2025 alone—with no real plan to control spending beyond vague promises of future restraint.

Having served in #Congress for 12 years, Massie has seen multiple so-called “10-year plans” under #Boehner and #Ryan—none of which ever played out as promised. He remains skeptical that this time will be any different.

With the deficit skyrocketing and fiscal responsibility on the line, Massie’s message is clear: empty promises won’t fix #America’s #economic future.

Someone's having difficulty letting go of his title. Ankit Jain was sworn in to replace Mike Brown as one of the DC shadow senators on January 2.

Why has the DC Council not managed to implement SSL for its streaming video? Some browsers are not giving warnings for links that don't have https. Hopefully that hasn't scared people off from watching the expulsion vote for Trayon White.

It's a shame about the fascism and the likely end of DC home rule, but at least Mayor Bowser gets her wish of forcing workers back into the office.

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR BOWSER ON THE INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

Every four years, Washington, DC is proud to support the peaceful transfer of power, and I am grateful for all the teams working together to make this a safe and memorable event. I have said before that I am blessed with a sense of optimism, and the strength and resilience of my city and our people give me reason to be optimistic.

Today, I am optimistic that by focusing on our shared priorities with President Trump - whether it is keeping DC safe and clean or bringing workers back to our Downtown we will continue to deliver for DC and the American public.

Does this mean that they didn't consider the 2017 inaugural viewing stand to be worth storing, since it cost only half a million dollars? Or did they actually reuse pieces from it, in which case the $1.5 million cost this year is even more outrageous?
washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/20

“There are no current plans for the viewing stand,” the spokesperson continued, in an emailed statement. “The stand will be dismantled after the Inauguration next week, with portions stored at a DC government-owned storage site for reuse during the next inauguration.”
