Super happy to finally hold a physical copy of my book. It will be out and available after the summer, please contact me if you are interested to review it or to organize an event around it.

copublished with KASK&Conservatorium Ghent, designed by Isabelle Vigier, final editing by Bureau Doove.

So today most of the "Liberate the Machines!" book was finally printed and thanks to Isabelle Vigier it looks fantastic ! Just after the summer it should be available through regular channels and a proper launch will follow.

A surface with a large sheet of paper containing multiple pages. Several historical images in black and white are visible, one in colour, one page stands out among the others because it has a bright orange-yellow background, with the chapter title 'Synthesizer Zen'.

That was a very nice evening in the Kunsthal in Ghent yesterday; an interesting discussion in front of a good audience, between Catherine Willems, Bert de Roo, Giliam Ganzevles and myself around three recently completed bookprojects, expertly moderated by Edith Doove. (there will be a proper launch of my book once it is actually printed and available, after the summer)

We're finally getting somewhere with the book and I'm very happy with the result !

A hand holding up a (mockup) copy of the book "Liberate the Machines!" by Joost Rekveld.

Joost Rekveld will talk about his recent artistic projects through the lens of two core concepts “lightning empiricism” and “Darwinian machinery,” which offers variant perspectives on the heuristic potential of physical devices and how media art can be a collaborative tool with forms of material agency.

Day before yesterday I had a screening of "Mechanisms Common to Disparate Phenomena; #59" in Denver, in a collaboration by Signal Culture, Denver Digerati, Collective Misnomer and the Rainbow Dome. Astro Kino took care of a magnificent DCP projection, incredibly bright and crisp. A nice crowd and some really interesting questions in the Q&A.

A group of people watching the screen in a cinema-like setting. The screen is a bit overexposed but we can still make out a pattern of green lines on the screen.

Today I gave a PLASMA talk at SUNY Buffalo, but before I got to play around a bit with their Eric Siegel "Processing Chrominance Synthesizer", a colorizer from around 1975. I was very tempted to open it up but I managed to stay reasonable..

The Steina Vasulka exhibition at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum is really great.

Later today I will leave on a US tour consisting of three screenings, four talks and a mini-residency, with appearances in Boston, Buffalo, College Station, Colorado and Dallas.

The final stop will consist of a visit of a few days to the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History at the University of Texas at Dallas.

In a few days I will embark on a US tour consisting of three screenings, four talks and a mini-residency, with appearances in Boston, Buffalo, College Station, Denver and Dallas.

The third stop will be College Station, Texas, where I will have the honour to participate in the inaugural season of LASER talks organized at Texas A&M University.

In a week I will embark on a US tour consisting of three screenings, four talks and a mini-residency, with appearances in Boston, Buffalo, College Station, Denver and Dallas.

The second stop will be Buffalo, where I will have a screening on March 23 and a talk on March 24.

Dear all, I hope to embark on a small US tour in the spring, so far with dates in Boston, Buffalo, College Station and Dallas. Between those last two I still have a gap in my schedule from Thursday the 27th to Sunday the 30th of March, would anybody have a suggestion for a place to screen my most recent film or give a talk or - even better - both, preferably in Texas or in a state not far from Texas ? 1/2

Tracing more previous owners of equipment in my studio for the "Liberate the Machines!" book. This Tektronix FG501 function generator from the early 1970s came from Intermedics, a pacemaker manufacturer. Finally something not related to the military.

Selecting images for the 'Liberate the Machines !' book: this is from August 2017 when I first encountered chaos in an analog computing patch. I was trying to reproduce the system that Yoshisuke Ueda used in 1961.

"From video feedback to generative AI: on recursivity in the arts and media". A crap picture of a great doctoral defense by Violaine Boutet de Monvel, with a stellar evaluating committee at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris, with Antonio Somaini, Larisa Dryansky, Guillaume Soulez, Marie-France Chambat-Houillon, Ina Blom and Térésa Faucon. I learned many things.
