Re-sharing one I did a few years ago because of the death of former President Jimmy Carter. I don't know if I'd have remembered his election considering I was only 4 years old, but I grew up 30 miles from Plains, Georgia. It was as close to having a neighbor run for president as I'm ever likely to have happen in my life. If I could only have one president live in my backyard, I'm glad it was President Carter. 💙
A coincidence that Carter passed on the 8th anniversary of my father's death. In honor of that, a story Dad liked to tell. Pres and Mrs. Carter frequented a grocery store where Dad worked in Americus in the 90s.
One time a new young cashier asked President Carter for ID for the check he was writing. She had no idea who he was. She was quickly told to just take the check. Dad said if President Carter's check bounced he'd have paid it himself and framed the check.
