every other month I have to throw my 30 amp heat pump breaker because it powers my #ecobee "smart" thermostat. there is no way to reboot the device otherwise. rebooting the device is the only way to get it to resync with my #homeassistant. #internetofshit
edit: I appreciate the responses but I'm not looking for a solution that doesn't involve fixing the ecobee or replacing it. Best as I can tell it's caused by wifi going down and ecobee not liking it. A chance it's caused by HA not seeing the thermostat when it's back on wifi.

#InternetOfShit, ladies and gentleman:
The product managers behind this supposed “smart” thermostat didn’t think to check and see if maybe the HVAC is turned off… Via their own damn thermostat. 🙄🫠
Another #ecobee software bug. The temperature read 25.5ºC but the dogs find it uncomfortable above 24 so I decided to set the thermostat back from 26. But, eco+ is enabled and needs to be turned off. I tried 8 times to turn it off. Parts of the app said it was off, other parts said it was still on. When I could finally set it back to 24, the temperature reading jumped back to 24 and the A/C wouldn't kick in. You know a device is badly designed when it's a battle to get it do it's main function.
Unquestionably, though, I’ve appreciated having #ecobee thermostats in my house. Their logging, metrics, charts, and notifications are outstanding. Even though I was very much aware of the temperature, I appreciated the email giving me a heads up in case I was away.
I'm so sick of how horrible internet of shit devices are when it comes to just changing a damn email account. #ecobee and #hue I'm looking right at you. Don't tell me it's for security. Computer technology has been around for 40 plus years at this point and we didn't need to do this kind of crap. Hell this crap didn't even start until internet of shit devices / Services arrived resulting in laziness.
I added a binary sensor group so now we only stir the tanks if there are astronauts in the command module…

Found yet another bug in the #ecobee iOS app. I changed the setpoint and told it to hold until the next scheduled change. The display confirmed my setting. Yet the temperature rose a full degree above the setpoint (typically the A/C kicks in at 0.5º above). I killed the app and restarted. Still confirms setpoint but A/C won't start. Cancelled the hold and changed the setpoint again. This time the A/C kicked in immediately. Checked the ecobee site. It claimed I set it 1º higher than app showed. 😡
In #ecobee's never-ending search to reach enshittification nirvana, their latest iOS app update now forgets what page I was on and reverts to the "My Home" screen. It always used to return to my "Thermostat" page where I left it, but the devs felt I really needed to do that one extra tap now. The fact that the home page has the Discover tab with the annoying red dot that never goes away trying to sell me something I'm sure doesn't factor into their decision at all.
Either #ecobee's API is giving me garbage data or the temperature in my house is experiencing temperature spikes. Given the thermal mass of a house and ecobee's reputation for quality, I know which one I believe is correct.
Ah, good 'ol #ecobee. Either their latest iOS app update (notice I didn't say "upgrade") or their servers are acting up. Due to a design flaw I must tap-tap-tap twice a day or more to change the minimum fan runtime setting. Settings > System > Fan > Fan Runtime > *choose time*. But getting to the System and Fan levels each take 5 to 12 seconds now when it used to be instantaneous. If you think the tap was missed and tap-tap-tap again trying to call it up, it queues the taps and shows many pages.
#ecobee is at it again. I have my thermostat set to 26ºC during the day. ecobee's "smart" system raises that 1º at 11:00 to reduce the load on the grid. Fine. I accept that. The house almost never gets that hot anyway. At 19:00 when the rates are cheapest I set it to 24º. However, today at 15:15 they decided to set it to 25º but the A/C kicked in anyway at peak rates when the inside temp was only 24º. When I cancelled the moronic eco+ the setting returned to 26º.
This is deeply defective s/w.
#ecobee opted me into their grid saving program (where they raise your thermostat setting to save the electricity company money) without my consent.
This is a thermostat that I purchased myself with no discount from the power company, and I had previously explicitly opted out of that program when setting it up. Now the only option is “skip this time” with no way to stay opted out.
Hope there’s a class action, but until then I’m glad I kept the dumb thermostat that was there before!
Ever since Generac bought ecobee, there have been numerous outages of their cloud service, the app's features have stagnated or gotten worse, and it's buggier.
Yesterday they had a 5-hour service outage, and today my ecobee macOS widget won't connect, and the iPhone app says the furnace fan is running when it's not.
Just give me direct phone and browser access to the thermostat. I don't need or want a useless, unreliable cloud service.
Does ANYONE know if #Google #Cloud and #Amazon Cloud are both "down"? #Ecobee is blaming their outage controlling our equipment on Amazon and Google being "down".
I don't think that both cloud services would be down and I don't see it on #Mastodon or affecting any other of my cloud-based home control systems!
