fluencyCAD:

Had a quick look at it today and found it not working because of an error with the sdf cad package (installation). I had sdf from Yann directly in the folder from experiments in the beginning. So it was kind of hard wired but I didn´t notice.

Never thought it would evolve beyond a weekend of fun and so the implementation method carried trough to this point.

I placed it back into its original folder and it worked again on my end at least.

fluencyCAD in the wilds

I just mirrored the fluencyCAD repository to the open section form internal so anyone who is interested have a look. Don´t expect super clean stuff though. It´s in a very early experimental state.

I´ll add more documentation as I find more time.

fluencyCAD

Fixed the redrawing of bodies when switching components by indenting a block of code one stop to the right.

A few smaller things in the sketcher including the handling of origins when drawing on projected bodies needs to be beautified. Display of constrains and shwoing dimensions on hover have been done recently.

I'm looking forward to implementing circles, rectangles, slots to the sketcher. This gonna be some rewarding fun stuff.

Right after that more body operations than the currently available cut.

Then some work on the export of bodies that would mark the first milestone of "somewhat usable for simple shapes".

Its somewaht easy to get back into it thanks to the last rewrite and thats just perfect for the short weekend sessions it received ober the last months since I started it but it does need a bigger devblock to get to that first milestone.

Most importantly, I still think it can become a good CAD program for Tinkerneers.

Some fluencyCAD footage form a few weeks ago:

The goal is to have a comfortable drawing widget that does require as few input steps as possible. This is done by a set ofconfigurable snap and guide options that are directly accessible. (Not working yet)

Spend some hours on fluencyCAD

Got Components working. That means one can switch between them and they contain the sketches and bodys. Bodys can be projected between components. Sketches can be edited.

Cut between two bodies is working again.

Skipped the timeline for now.

Some UI changes.

Worked a bit on making the basic functions pretty internally. Some GUI changes visible with the new timeline and sketch and body windows changed position.

It really would be a dream to get this thin gto abasic functionality one can work with <3

Introducing the new structure into fluencyCAD worked. We now have a timeline, components and the fundamentals for assembly sketched out.

Lots of staring at the wall and visits to the "thought emporium" (organic) were involved :D

The design guideline is based of the compiled experience of at least 10 years in multiple CAD programs.

Progressed into sketch projection from and to 2D. I think this is a cleaner approach for drawing.

Next stage will be additional operations like cutting holes and timeline logic.

Intention is to have CAD geared towards maker with a focused UI with static layout so you can develp "muscle memory".
I´m pretty happy already as I completely ruled out writing a CAD software at all.

@dcz Damn, that's cool! The edges look sharp, so it's ray-marched, not a mesh made with marching cubes?

EDIT: Ah, ray-marched and you want to go directly to gcode, interesting! [1]

I firmly believe #CAD benefits a lot from #sdf|s and I love to see more projects like #sdfCAD and #fluencyCAD arise!

I added mid point constrains, hotizontal, vertical and point on line to test the underlying system.

I´ll look at selecting elements on the generated meshes first before attempting snapping of lines and intelligent drawing funtions etc.
