Apple's Hide My Email feature is a joke.
1. When I send to a HME account, I get a bounce. Apple receives and accepts the email, verifies DMARC/DKIM&SPF, but then when apple's servers forward it, the final server bounces it as spam, and apple pass that back to the original sender. So we can't email people who used the feature.
2. In the bounce email from Apple it reveals ... the "hidden" email address! 👍 way to go, Apple!

How many of you use Apple's iCloud "hide my email" function?
How often does it cause problems with the recipient? Multiple times I have had companies not get emails I sent or they got it, but it triggered an abnormal response.
Last week, for example, I ordered something online using it and the company wrote back wanting a copy of my drivers license and a utility bill with the same address as my credit card to prevent fraud they said. (Yeah, no, fuck off. But this is a legit company.)
There must be something about the format or the origin of those anonymized emails that triggers some filtering software somewhere 🤷♂️

Why do emails into Hide My Email not show which alias it was sent to? Even clicking the info button on the alias just drops to the whole list, not that specific alias. Makes it of useless if one gets compromised and have to figure out which alias it is. #icloud #ios #apple #hidemyemail
Edit: should clarify; it never exposes the aliases label to you so you have no idea what app/site/service the email is supposed to have come from.
Would like to deactivate “Hide my Email” from iOS.
This is so annoying because it hinders me using auto-fill.
Does anybody know a trick or something?
@jo I recently created an alias with my email provider for some work related chat. They limit 5 aliases which wouldn’t be enough for the 100+ services I’ve used #HideMyEmail with thus far but I’m glad it works out for you!
Next maybe a browser extension for it to automatically generate the alias for you? 😬
if you're not using the #HideMyEmail service from #iCloud then you're missing out.
This has to be one of the best features that Apple has added in recent years - having my phone (Safari) generate a new random email address each time I need to sign up to a service is a game changer because:
1. I can simply deactivate an email address when a sender starts getting spammy.
2. I can actually see who is sharing me email addresses around (as each random address is 1:1 with a domain).
@kswilcox I do a lot of that too at the end of the year. If you are an Apple user start using "hide my email" feature, it's a great way to see where junk emails are coming from and then you can deactivate the email address to cut them off.🌻😎
