Now whose genius idea was it to limit calendar event colors to precisely the named colors of CSS in RFC7986, which were never intended as a sole palette because CSS also supports hex colors? 🤯
(Explicitly *not* blaming the author here; this probably comes from legacy systems and was reviewed by any number of people that could have caught it.)

Wohoo!
You can now grab your #job #interview #calendar in #ICal format, to put in whatever calendar app you like!

I mean, might as well keep building features 😆

So, after spending the better part of the day working on this, I now have an #iCal file that contains _one_ event for Easter, which is using an RDATE property to list all of the Easter dates in about 200 years (because it's an irregular event and normal repeat rules won't work).
Thunderbird accepts this (even if it says "repeat details unknown"), #khal on the command line does, too.
@mailbox_org's #OpenXchange web UI doesn't display them. 😩
"remind¹ syntax is way too complicated!"
lol, have you _read_ the iCalendar RFC?

As we consider ways to implement #ActivityPub into our FOSS Community Calendar Ecosystem platform Koalagator, I've been looking over the differing specs for how to specify the event object schema.
Have any other folk wrestled with this?Asking before I get arms deep in this stuff.
For those playing at home...

Schema.org - Event
Schema.org is a collaborative, community activity with a mission to create, maintain, and promote schemas for structured data on the Internet.
-----
W3C Activity Vocabulary - Event
This specification describes the Activity vocabulary. It is intended to be used in the context of the ActivityStreams 2.0 format and provides a foundational vocabulary for activity structures, and specific activity types.

Fediverse Enhancement Proposal
FEP-8a8e: A common approach to using the Event object type
ActivityStreams defines the Object Type Event. In real-world applications, the event object immediately showed the need for extension. Applications featuring Event objects have often chosen to add additional attributes and clarifications (i.e., interpretations) in order to implement their particular use case. This proposal clarifies and extends the ActivityPub standard to address the needs that have arisen in real-world implementations.

[HTML] Microformats - h-event
People are using microformats to mark up profiles, posts, events and other data on their personal sites, enabling developers to build applications which use this data in useful and interesting ways.

iCalendar Standard (RFC 5545)
iCalendar was first defined as a standard as RFC 2445 in 1998 by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Today, iCalendar is used to import and synchronize events on various platforms, including smart phones, computer and web applications.

@hellomailo
Somebody here with some experience in #RFC5545? I would love to use the #EXRULE feature for recurring exceptions, but it was deprecated. How can I replace it without determining specific actual dates?
#iCalendar #IETF #iCal :BoostOK:
Hi! I'm looking for a shared calendar for a collective still trapped inside the google matrix...
It should be free, easy to edit online and inside common calendar apps,
respectful of privacy and trusted, possibly without login ?
so far I found PasteCal, any experience on this ? https://pastecal.com
other recommandations?

Wild stab in the dark but I don’t suppose anyone knows a Lua library for parsing iCal / ics
files that works correctly? I’ve found https://github.com/MParolari/lua-ical but it doesn’t handle some kinds of recurrences correctly (bi-weekly, for example.)
Could probably fix it given enough time but a working alternative would be the less mentally traumatising option.
RFC 7986 https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7986 is bijna 10 jaar oud.
