Digital ID’s fiercest opponents? Britain’s digital ID industry.
Keir Starmer’s vow to develop a digital ID and mandate its use for “right to work” checks has sparked criticism.
But no one was more dismayed than firms which already provide digital verification services to millions.
The £2bn sector fears the state’s own digital ID plans could knock the bottom out of its market — and see it caught in a public backlash.
Going round in circles in the National ID scheme - which is what it is.
Here is a video from 2008 at an event I attended.
Ministers ALWAYS talk about Identity Cards they very very rarely talk about a National Identity Register...they talk about CONVENIENCE to the citizen but its really about convenience to the state and your privacy is disposable under those circumstances

"The Lib Dem peer said he had been told by an official that #OneLogin would not pass the required security tests until March 2026. The whistleblower also highlighted an incident from March this year, when a so-called "red team" tasked with simulating a real life cyber attack was reportedly able to gain privileged access to One Login systems."

It might not be the current Government’s plan to use digital ID for this sort of tracking, but once created, you can’t constrain future governments from using it in that way.
That’s the problem.
Sometimes easier isn't better. FFS, it is the devil's main route to stealing fucking souls.

Think about it: if a person’s phone is the solitary credential through which they can live their life – both online and offline – then stealing somebody’s phone will suddenly become much more prevalent and popular.
Utility bills and other hassle, reduce risk.
Proponents of Digital ID clearly do not want people to understand that the whole point of authentication for certain transactions IS MEANT TO BE A COMPLETE PAIN IN THE ARSE; that’s literally how we as customers *BENEFIT*

The goal of getting people to jump through hoops is to gain assurance. The hoops must be substantial and challenging in order to work. By working, they reduce risk.
Prime Minister Kier Starmer clearly does not have a deep understanding of the processes and goals of identification, authentication and assurance:
