Around 200 musicians from the fields of free improvised music, jazz, electronics and contemporary composed music have been involved, in always genderbalanced line-ups.
The VIO has been a guest at the Moers Festival, Wien Modern, the Artacts festival for jazz&improvised music, at numerous spaces in the context of the fine arts, at the Porgy&Bess, Brut Wien a.m.m. Founded by Michael Fischer in 2004, the VIO is one of the earliest, continuously working improvisation orchestras worldwide.
