This week on the ShareTIGR lab blog (sharetigr.usi.ch/en/news/feeds): Why #metadata is important for FAIR data sharing and reuse? Metadata is an important topic in data management. In this post, Nina Profazi reflects on the relevance of descriptive, technical and administrative metadata for interactional linguistics. Later, we will discuss the specific choices to be made at this regard for our conversational data on the LaRS repository. #openscience #openresearchdata #opendata #spokenlanguage #corpuslinguistics #interactionallinguistics

Today on the ShareTIGR lab blog (sharetigr.usi.ch/en/news/feeds): Script assisted editing of transcripts in txt format exported from ELAN. This blog post concludes our little series on the fabrication of Jefferson-style transcripts with a limited amount of timecode indications at regular intervals. In the next weeks, we will go back to the very first stages of corpus collection, talking about how we contacted participants, obtained their consent and dealt with obstacles created by the Covid-19 pandemic. #spokenlanguage #italianoparlato #interactionallinguistics

In this week's ShareTIGR 📰 post and the associated silent 🎬video (sharetigr.usi.ch/en/news/feeds), we present our first🐍Python script ever, which we wrote to process transcripts exported from the multimedia annotator ELAN. Its task is to "filter" timecode stamps to reduce their number. This is one of several steps to produce .txt transcripts that contain a maximum of information while still being readable to the human eye. #openresearchdata #openscience #EMCA #interactionallinguistics @dh @corpuslinguistics @linguistics

📢 Workshop on the design and application of large machine-readable audio-video corpora of spoken interaction, organized by #LorenzaMondada on behalf of CHORD-talk-in-interaction at the University of Basel on 📅December 7-8, 2023. Register here: chord-talk-in-interaction.usi. for on site or online participation by 📅November 27.
Arnulf Deppermann, Henrike Helmer and Silke Reineke from the Leibniz-Institut für Deutsche Sprache, Mannheim, will draw on the IDS corpus FOLK (Forschungs- und Lehrkorpus gesprochenes Deutsch) to discuss and illustrate the challenges of creating and using spoken and multimodal data in a #EMCA and #interactionallinguistics perspective. They will address workflows, #corpus research tools and the specifics of audio and video data gathered to document social interactions in authentic settings. They will discuss the potential and the constraints of using large corpora and their tools to support research on social interaction. There will also be an open discussion on the possibilities and limitations of #openresearchdata / #opendata allowing the participants to exchange views on current trends towards sharing research data and the conditions under which they can be made available to the scientific community.
CHORD-talk-in-interaction is a collaboration 🤝👥 between USI Università della Svizzera italiana and the universities of Basel, Lausanne and Neuchâtel.

In the editorial, Jérôme Jacquin and I review a certain amount of literature and reflect on the way ⚖️#epistemic and 👁️👂💡#evidential markers help form and modulate 👎disagreeing actions in various contexts. We then introduce the four contributions to the special issue, written by Maria-Josep Cuenca (Universitat de Valencia), Simona Pekarek Doehler (Université de Neuchâtel), Jérôme Jacquin (Université de Lausanne) and myself (Università della Svizzera italiana).

Really nice work combining a study of pronouns in Jaru (a language of Australia) with a study of gaze: how do speakers use eye gaze and pointing to distinguish between inclusive/exclusive dual/plural 'we'?
