It also happens very quickly and ineffably that God will show within Himself a truth that seems to leave in obscurity all those there are in creatures, and one understands very clearly that God alone is Truth, unable to lie. What David says in a psalm about every man being a liar is clearly understood (cf. Ps 116:11). However frequently the verse may be heard, it is never understood as it is in this vision. God is everlasting Truth… Thus, we shall have little esteem for this world, which is a complete lie and falsehood, and as such will not endure.
Reflection: God Alone is Truth
Teresa’s mystical vision reveals that God alone is truth, and all human knowledge pales in comparison. This profound experience transformed her understanding of the world as fleeting and deceptive. How often do we place our trust in the things of this world instead of in God, who is the only truth? Teresa challenges us to reevaluate our attachments and to place our full confidence in God, the only enduring reality. What can we do today to live more fully in this truth?
