There is something pure and iconically rock n' roll at the heart of all of Mark Sandman's projects and bands, which manifested to an apex with his impossibly grooving band Hypnosonics. He knew: girls always, ALWAYS, want to DANCE - first and FOREMOST. Standing in front of a live band - they want to melt away their minds, forget about their emotions, let go of the world, and land - IN THE BODY, ON EARTH, eyes CLOSED - where the blood starts to pulse, and the hips start to shake, and the feet start to twitch and one is just - gone baby gone... to the beat of course, but also to every surprise thread of instrumentation - which is where the hands rejoice in their flourishes and the soul flies free alongside of every note and improvisation... At least, that's what always happened to me standing in front of these incredible players!!!!!

"Way With Words." Way to go! This new single from Girl With a Hawk, a Linda S. Viens enterprise, was released this morning. New. I've liked everything I have heard so far by Girl With a Hawk; and I suggest this band as one well worth following. This single had to be good. It is "produced, engineered, and tambourined" by Pete Weiss. Captain Easychord seems to have sneaked in ahead of me but I was second to buy this track at Bandcamp.

Asa Brebner was a Boston singer-songwriter. Earlier in his career and life, he was half of the core of Mickey Clean and the Mezz. It was Mickey Clean who talked Jim Harold into allowing original music at the classic Boston rock club, The Rat. Brebner was in a transitional lineup of the Boston pre-punk band, The Modern Lovers. Then he was in one of my all-time favorite groups, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters.

The name of Linda Viens has been familiar to me for quite some time.

She is great singing "Shelter of Your Love;" but it does not entirely capture the range of her performing ability. She has sung with a lot of people and she has been in quite a number of bands. Her new group is Girl With a Hawk. What I have heard so far of the group hints that it may be her star-making effort. Girl With a Hawk is very good.
