it seems that for now #MathTwitter effectively became #MathMastodon (or simply http://mathstodon.xyz), whereas the rest of my Twitter neighbourhood pretty much stuck here

Hey #MathTwitter and #Mathstodon, do any of you use (e-)portfolios as your primary assessment strategy? I'm looking for the right digital tool for it that's not Bl*ckb*ard or a shared Google folder.

@kimdayers I was never on Twitter, came here for maths/academia talk and followed a bunch of people with interesting posts or profiles in that vein that I came across. So far the most interesting and fun posts came out of whatever was on people's mind.
I guess I came here looking for a community like #MathTwitter, but I didn't want to go on Twitter...

Hey #MathTwitter: How do you remember definitions?

As in, in what format do you store them as information? As sequences of logical information ("∀ε>0 ∃δ>0...")?
Or as more verbose ideas that allow you to reconstruct their logical content ("outputs get close when inputs do")?

Hi there! I'm Zhant, an undergrad who really should be working on his bachelor's thesis (due in two weeks) but decided to create an account here because I'll miss lurking in #MathTwitter if the site implodes

I mainly like geometry, topology and algebra. If I pursue a PhD I think it will be in either algebraic geometry or geometric algebra (or topology, idk)

I don't think I'll post much but this could be a nice place to share my math struggles and bad jokes that only I find funny

Trying to find my #mathtwitter friends: hi! I’m Laura - I did my PhD in applied math, working on inverse problems in medical settings, astronomy, and aerial imaging using statistical inversion and convex optimization. I now work in the ocean domain, working in ocean acoustics, modeling changing ice-ocean dynamics from climate change, etc. I also post a lot about law as that is a former (current?) career aspiration/undergrad focus. So hopefully this gets to the right circles!

Do you know of a simple argument to tell that the exponential map, for endomorphisms of a Banach space, is a C^\infty function ?
Every reference I know tells the C^1 case, mumbles a few words about what could be done, but stops there…
