"They Were Roommates"
Based on a scene of Otto & Princess Kashmir dancing together in the SIMPSONS episode "Flaming Moe's."
The lore between Maury & Ophelia here is that they dated a couple times, found that they lacked romantic or sexual chemistry but really enjoyed hanging out anyway. Hence they became roommates, & later Maury started working as a bouncer at the strip club that Ophelia danced at.
