I discovered these little guys living on a moss stem in my aquarium. I was looking at them with my 10x magnifiers, when one of them moved its feathery arms, eating something very small. They likely have been in the 15 Gallon tank for nearly a year. Last winter, the tank was populated with pond mud and water collected from a few locations. I never noticed them until today.

Microscopic animals forming a colony on a stem of aquatic moss. The colony is about 2 mm in area. The creatures are white. Each is on a stock that turns into a bulbous translucent body, with a mouth lined with feathery arms reaching into the water. I believe these are zoothamnium of some kind.
