MTV:n pääkanavahan ei ole keskittynyt musiikkivideoihin enää vuosikausiin, mutta MTV:llä on ollut liuta musiikkivideoihin keskittyviä rinnakkaiskanavia. Nyt ne kaikki lakkautetaan vuoden lopulla - ja jäljelle jää vain reality-ohjelmiin keskittyvä pääkanava.

Cannonball was an underground favourite in 1990s Aotearoa, but never a radio hit, so watching the video on music TV was our way in.

40 years ago today, 10 Jan 1985, Strawberry Switchblade had their first TV appearance on the BBC's iconic Top of The Pops, performing Since Yesterday.

Everyone on the show would have watched it when they were younger & seen their heroes. An appearance was a sign you'd really arrived.

The performance was a triumph & the single shot up from 32 to 10 in the next week's charts.

It's the end of an era in the UK, as Kerrang is being shut down at the end of the month (as well as its sister channels like Magic and Kiss). Considering the channel pretty solidly cemented my music taste, I'll be sad to see it go!
