Final talk of #nanoporeconf #NCM2022 I chuckled a little

The Mantas Sereika talk on microbial genome from metagenomes was intriguing, that's for sure. Never knew about cable bacteria - wish I had more time and ask better thought out questions. #nanoporeconf #ncm2022

Exciting #nanopore updates for RNA biologists announced last night. FINALLY some new chemistry development for direct RNAseq & base caller model updates to go with! ONT's developed many bespoke helicases via an ML-guided engineering effort in 2022, and we're getting one for RNA. Supposedly faster & more consistent motor speeds, improved RNA base calling with accuracy up to 96%, and 3X output improvements from the chemistry changes. All coming next year, early access in Q1.

One personally curious note at #NCM2022 #nanoporeconf - where are all the field evolutionary biologists, and longer-term reports based on sequencing and analysis? Or have I just missed them - I know there are work being done.

My first NCM experience had been fascinating so far - I can definitely imagine NCM format being an absolutely brilliant move on ONT's part in both addressing research community needs & perhaps shaping at least some of the discussions and interest. Latter via looking at young, emerging researchers I think, so I'd consider this a win-win scenario. #nanoporeconf #ncm2022

For Nanopore Community Meeting #ncm2022 - my onsite poster number is #7, and online number is #16. I'll be around the poster from 4 to 5:15 or so, please do stop by and provide some feedback! Especially interested in feedback for #Deinococcus #phages #plasmids #phylogeny

Poster + slides done and uploaded. Now to practice the lightning talk until #NCM2022 in December. 4 minutes means I need to talk really fast, right? #nanopore #sequencing

Doing some last minute double check analysis for our #NCM2022 poster. ANI syntenny for #Oxalis #chloroplast #genomes universally drop off in inverted repeat region A. Is this a common behavior for chloroplast genomes in general? But the identity match for IRBs seem to be pretty high.
