It's not just a lot to expect, it's diametrically opposite to the way the system is designed. The Americans' 2nd amendment to their constitution exists explicitly to ensure that "the People" can resist the federal government with violence.

I agree that it's going to be difficult to convict him, though whoever prosecutes it will do their absolute damnedest to ensure the jurors never hear the words "jury nullification" (though they already do that, of course...).
