Keeping things simple, as we dive into two releases from
#paulaner (
#paulanerusa), we sat down with a serving of Bavarian-style pretzel, two kinds of mustard, some salt, and this small serving of beer cheese.
Starting with the mildest of the two, we sat down with the Munich Wheat Bier, Hefe-weizen.
Out of the bottle, or on draft, Hefe-weizen produces a plucky amount of shaving cream white-head, resting on a foundation of orange opaque-ness. Receding, there remains a wreath of lacing resting inside the glass on the surface.
Swirling and sniffing, we recall notes of subtle banana, orange citrus, bits of earthen pine, and some herbal spices.
Sipping, we recover a remarkable sparkling character, dotted with notes of orange citrus, subtle pine, and modest herbal spice notes. Following along, you pick up some breadiness, finishing with a bit of banana. Overall, Hefe-weizen has a mild to medium mouthfeel, some alcoholic warmth, and a lingering bitterness, punctuated by some orange citrus.
Moving onto Original Munich Lager, aka Münchner Lager, we notice how it prduces an invvigorated amount of off-white head, resting on a clear pool of gold. Receding quickly, there remains little in the way of lacing.
Swirling and sniffing, we recover notes of cooking herbs, rich earth, and stone fruit.
Sipping, we recover notes of fresh baked bread, honey, stone fruit, cooking herbs, some rich earth bitterness and bits of fresh stirred hay. Overall, Münchner Lager has a mild to medium mouthfeel, some alcoholic warmth, and a lingering slickness punctuated by some rich earth bitterness.
