Romb Mini lamp by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Pholc

Dezeen Showroom: Swedish lighting brand Pholc has collaborated with Broberg & Ridderstråle to create Romb Mini, a portable table lamp made from two stacked aluminum shapes designed to imitate cardboard.

Romb Mini is the outcome of Pholc's most recent collaboration with Swedish designers Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle, and the lamp compliments its larger cousin Romb, which was released last year.

The Romb Mini is made portable thanks to its compact size, lightweight aluminum construction, and battery-powered light source.

"Use it as a centerpiece on a dinner table or as a companion on a sideboard. As adaptable and interesting in a home as in a lobby," said Pholc.

The lamp comes in four neutral colourways

"We formulated a concept using corrugated cardboard shapes, a material that we use a lot when building architectural prototypes," explained Mats Broberg.

The lamp comes in a variety of colours, including vanilla, cotton, cumin, or blue stone, which allows the ridged profile of the Romb Mini to remain a focal point.

Donna wall light by Nina Jobs and Stina Sandwall for Pholc

Dezeen Showroom: taking inspiration from high fashion, designers Nina Jobs and Stina Sandwall aimed to mimic the look of fabric pleats with metal in the Donna wall light for Swedish brand Pholc.

A continuation of the Donna family of pendants and chandeliers, the Donna wall light takes the form of a simple sconce with a ribbed aluminium exterior.

Jobs and Sandwall wanted to play with the contradiction of using a hard material to conjure a sense of softness with the Donna lights.

In its wall variation, it casts a soft light upwards to bring warmth into spaces such as restaurants, hotel corridors as well as the home.

"With its new shape and placement, Donna wall will elevate hallways, corridors and other areas in need of welcoming wall lamps," said Pholc founder Maja Norburg.

The Donna wall light has a smooth matt finish and is available in four contemporary muted colours including Linen, Blush, the desaturated Black Inc and the mustard-hued Autumn Leaves.

Turner pendant light by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Pholc

Dezeen Showroom: Swedish duo Broberg & Ridderstråle has designed a sculptural pendant for lighting brand Pholc that resembles a cocoon.

The Turner light is handmade in Italy and, according to the designers, "retains a pleasing quality of fragility and lightness akin to rice paper".

"The sculptural quality and unique character of the material make Turner equally eye-pleasing when turned off," Pholc told Dezeen.

To create the cocoon shape, the designers experimented with different wire constructions. The delicate cocoon material was then sprayed with polymer to strengthen the structure.

This same technique was used by designers in the 1940s, bringing an element of tradition to the Turner light.

"We're always looking to the future," says Pholc founder Maja Norburg. "Turner uses an established process to create an elegant new mood."

The light can be hung alone or combined to form a lighting installation

According to Broberg & Ridderstråle, the resulting design can help to create a "warm, atmospheric" glow above dining tables and beds.

The pendant is available in two sizes and can be hung on it own or combined into larger constellations.

Romb lamp by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Pholc

Dezeen Showroom: Finnish design duo Broberg & Ridderstråle has created Romb, an angular lamp made of corrugated steel for Swedish design brand Pholc.

Named for its rhomboid shape, the Romb lamp is made from delicately ridged metal in a pale cotton or earthy cinnamon finish.

"Quiet, discreet and warm," Broberg & Ridderstråle said about their design. "Enough to set a tone but not dictate it."

The Romb has been deliberately designed with a small footprint so it can sit on narrow shelves and surfaces despite its relative size.

The lamp also comes in a cinnamon tone

"Romb has an aesthetic sense of presence that makes it quite unique but a purposeful functionality," said Pholc.

"The combination of detailing, colour, material and proportion means the lamp looks beautiful even when it's not in use."

Romb is available in two sizes at 36 centimetres and 48 centimetres high.
