Alright, Ropecon 2024 is over. I have returned home from there after I no longer had anything to do there, so here's a recap and a review of this year's Ropecon.
The beginning of the event was pretty alright, I watched the opening of the convention and then listened to a lecture by the convention's other special guest, Alessandro Giovannucci. He talked about emotions in LARPing, with some humor sprinkled on it. Although I wasn't that interested, my dad wanted to go watch that, so I decided to go watch it with my dad.
I wrapped the day with a Cyberpunk-themed ttrpg called Shadowrun: Anarchy. The session was pretty enterntaining, and wasn't bored during the session at all. I went home to sleep when it was 11 pm.
On the next day, I decided to first try some board games and try to get some acquintances there. I played a fun board game called "King of Tokyo", which was a dice-based kaiju monster fighting game. It was pretty fun to play. I followed one guy to a lecture that was about tips for game masters for ttrpgs. I got hungry after the lecture, and went to eat a delicious burger meal at Friends & Brgrs. It was the first time I had eaten in that place. The meal was good, especially the fries. The burger had a bit too little vegetables, but the burger was more sturdy, which meant that the parts of the burger wouldn't get loose when eating, which is the case in Hesburger. Before I went to watch the gala, I went to the marketplace area and bought some stuff.
I watched the gala, which was nice, but got a sensory overload from all that noise from the audience, especially when sitting at the middle of the audience. Left the place earlier and went back home. The place was most crowded on the saturday evening.
On sunday, I had a pretty good time. I had to wake up earlier for a workshop about politics in ttrpgs, where I had some fun. I created a setting for a ttrpg with some other folks, which was a great premise. I watched a lecture about some crazy things dictators did. Although as a history nerd I already knew some of those, I still had fun there, and got my hands on Muammar Gaddaffi's book and Ruhnama for a moment, when the book was passed on among the people in the audience. After that, I went to a Fallout-themed room which had props from a Fallout Larp that took place in Finland, and was about Finland in the Fallout universe. The props were awesome, and I want to go to that Larp some day. I also sang some songs with the people there and drank some Nuka-Cola in that room.
After going to that room, I decided to listen to another lecture and then went back home. This year's Ropecon was a better experience, since this was the first big event I went to for the full event. Unfortunately I didn't meet a new friend nor an acquintance there, but probably next year. #ropecon #ropecon2024 #conventions #ttrpgs #rpgs #larping #fallout
