But finally, and maybe most pertinent to and research, he stressed the importance of playfulness in approaching a topic, and the opportunities to learn and develop through that process.

This is where different streams of inspiration for me meet:

... having someone tell a story about story telling brings in other aspects.

Conceptualising visualisation as a form of data compression was an interesting thought to me.

Also, he sees his work much more like photo journalism than print journalism: is about perspective, zoom...

I really enjoyed the talk by @infobeautiful.bsky.social at @rssedinburgh.bsky.social. Not because the content was new. His talks (youtube.com/watch?v=5Zg-C8AAIGg) and books have made the point that the stories lie in contrasting relevant numbers in visually appealing ways.

But...

Busy week, I have not much posted from . This will follow in the next days.

For now, I enjoyed chatting with Robert Grant and am reading his co-authored book "Bayesian " which he kindly gave me a copy of πŸ™‡

I am always looking combinations of unusual and cross-cutting themes for teaching/ training, so I'll do a parallel read with in this area: link.springer.com/chapter/10.1

A book leaning upright on a wooden bench or seat of sorts, sunshine broken up by shades (leaves?) above. In the background some green and flowers are vaguely visible. The top of a "Royal Statistical Society" conference name tag sticks out of it. The book's cover is largely black, sports the title "Bayesian Meta-Analysis - A practical introduction" by Robert Grant and Gian Luca Di Tanna. The lower half shows a picture with a beige background on top of which there are what looks like line or ink lines indicating a wild overlay of continuous distribution curves, close to symmetric but with a bit of positive skew. It is identified as a work in acrylic and coffee on card by Robert Grant

Difficulties deciding which session to attend later at . I feel I have had too much social media exposure to posts from @millerdl , session 10 with modelling seals, capercaillies, aphids... looks surprisingly attractive.

Will probably be session 9 on , though.

Thank you to Mona Kanaan (UoYork, UK) for asking me to present in the panel

"From study to target populations: Addressing through the lens of Transportability and Generalisability"
(1:50pm, )

I'll present on 😊

From study to target populations: addressing external validity through the Lens of Transportability and Generalisability
TrackMedical Statistics
Randomised and observational studies each have unique strengths and limitations when estimating causal effects for a target population. While estimates derived from randomised controlled trials may possess internal validity, they often fail to adequately represent the target population due to restrictive inclusion criteria. Observational data are more likely to represent the target population, increasing the likelihood of external validity. However, evidence from observational studies is prone to potential bias due to unmeasured confounding. A framework has recently been proposed to address the external validity bias through evaluating generalisability and transportability. This session will explore the current developments.

Good morning!

On my way to to attend for the day. First time, looking forward to meeting (new) people and listening to some interesting talks.

Leaving with drizzle and in grey. Expecting more of that in DΓΉn Eideann.

shot from a moving vehicle (train actually) on a bridge, view of a river, sky with grey clouds, water reflecting grey, in the distance to the left and right some low hills are visible.
