Had the pleasure to build out about 90% of the SkysEdge "Rotary UnSmart Phone" (RUSP) this weekend. Turns out I'm missing a uFL Coax Cable or I'd have finished it. Super fun project!

Basically it's a cell phone with an honest to goodness rotary dial that will essentially only make phone calls and not do all the other distraction crap that most portable electronics do these days.

Argh, Justine Haupt’s Rotary Un-Smartphone kit was *this* close to shipping to pre-order customers like me, who have been waiting up to two years.

But now US #mobile carriers like #Verizon and #ATT require independent #PTCRB certification and its prerequisite #FCC Part 15 certification before allowing anything on their network, whereas before they would just let her register a bring-your-own-device SIM card with an IMEI number.
