<p>Sometimes apparently simple things are truly simple, but more often than not they need us to turn detective to delve deeper. This has proved the case with local network privacy protection, introduced well over a year ago in macOS Sequoia, and largely glossed over since. As I was compiling my <a href="https://eclecticlight.co/2026/01/14/how-local-network-privacy-could-affect-you/">brief summary</a> of what I had been able to discover about it, I had a feeling there was more to come, and there is.</p>
<p>Cast your mind back just over a year to the first couple of release versions of macOS Sequoia. Do you recall all the problems reported with its software firewall and networking? At the time I <a href="https://eclecticlight.co/2024/09/29/last-week-on-my-mac-upgrade-games/">wrote of 15.0</a> “There have been widespread reports of problems with networking, many attributable to the software firewall. Products across a wide range of vendors are affected, and many simply can’t function properly in Sequoia.”</p>
<p>Most of those were addressed in 15.1, but their cause was never made clear unless you read <a href="https://developer.apple.com/documentation/technotes/tn3179-understanding-local-network-privacy" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Apple’s TN3179</a> carefully, where it’s mentioned in passing that “macOS 15.1 fixed a number of local network privacy bugs”. @keir Its not too far off from the #uname -v kernel version for #Sequioa which is 24.0. This only tells me the next iPhone is like gonna be iPhone 26.

Anyone already running #osx #sequioa on a #macbook #m1 #air? Can I upgrade from 14.7.2 to 15.3? Or do I need to go to 14.7.3 or 15.0 first? No idea why, but upgrades always making me nervous (yes, I do have my backup in place).

Any update on #Sequioa and clone booting?

I like the new window tiling options in #macOS #Sequioa (as the animations are nice). But they don’t cover everything, and the default hotkeys are terrible.

Luckily, these can be changed!

I've also made notes on multilingual users (like myself), and what to do with apps that doesn't support the default window management.

#thunderbird 78 still does not like my key and does not provide an error message, even in debug mode.

Now I learned that #rnp, which thunderbird uses, is available at #guix already (thanks to Justus from #sequioa project). After struggling with the bad command-line interface (even worse then #gnupg), I now at least have an useful error message. Only after enabling debug-mode, though.

If I'm luck I can remove the offending parts using sequoia tools and then import my key int TB - at last.
