Two people are sat at an outside bench working on building and testing their handmade radios. One is listening with headphones and the other is testing the radio circuit for reception. Had a blast doing some live listening/tuning/testing w Shortwave Collective for the 2023 Open Hardware Summit in NYC last night.

I was nestled between car bonnet, bins & bushes of North London with my DIY radio receiver + trusty pencil/razor diode combo at the helm… Attempting to use this beautiful old sign as my antenna…

tinysound is live-testing a self built radio receiver (an Open Wave-Receiver) on the bonnet of a black car at night with a road, car and trees in the background. She is appearing live in an online workshop to build radios via a laptop which is also on the bonnet of a car. She is also wearing a metro tartan cap which she bloody loves, though is unnecessary for night time lol.

A really impressive black and white metal sign from the 1930’s for the Smithfield Refrigerator Works in London. The huge sign sits above an alley and is semi-attached to an Victorian pub built in 1890. Tinysound was trying to use this sign as an antenna extension for her radio receiver. The sign also has a huge tree shading it.
