An activist from Shut Down Rafael has received a court summons from for causing “alarm, distress and harassment” under sections 4(a) and 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 for holding bloodied baby clothes and dolls in shrouds outside Rafael, the Israeli state owned weapons factory in Newcastle.

The activist, who is also a mother, held the baby clothes and dolls in shrouds to represent the children murdered by Israel. In Palestine solidarity demonstrations globally, children’s clothing and effigies have been used to symbolise the lives lost in this genocide. Clearly Northumbria Police find children’s clothing and dolls in shrouds to symbolise murdered children, more offensive than actual dead children and the genocide factory that makes the weapons to kill those children. The maximum sentence if convicted is a 26 week custodial sentence. Such a draconian conviction would have legal implications for the Palestine solidarity movement and protesters’ freedom of expression.

Please mobilise to support on Wednesday 5th June from 9am outside Newcastle Magistrates Court, Newcastle Law Courts, NE1 3LA. Please bring flags, placards, children’s clothes, dolls, etc. 🇵🇸 #freepalestine #gaza #shutdownrafael #newcastle #geordies #gazagenocide #gateshead #geordiesagainstgenocide #northeast
