It is nearly #Christmas , so here is a very seasonally appropriate target.

#NGC2264 is comprised of two parts - there is the #ConeNebula , which is a #DarkNebula , and the accompanying #ChristmasTreeCluster . For us here in #Australia this is a #Summer complex - appearing for us in the lead up to Christmas itself.

This is a two and half hour exposure, or 150 frames, at 60s/frame, gain 80, using the inbuilt Ha/OIII filter, shot on a #Dwarf3 #SmartTelescope .

Post processing was using Stellar Studio in the app, and #Snapseed.

A bright cluster of stars somewhat resembling a Christmas tree illuminate a patch of nebula near the top centre. At the top of the nebula is a triangular incursion with a red glowing tip. Elsewhere in the shot fainter dust clouds are being illuminated. Text in the corners is replicated in the body text.

Taken this morning. Sunshine and showers so I stopped for ten minutes to see what I could see. Landscape of bright sun through clouds. Clear blue skies at the top of frame, turning to yellow nearer the horizon. JPEG from camera to phone, with 16:9 crop and slight tone adjustment, while eating breakfast. I'll take a look at the RAW files, of the 20 pictures I took, later.

I forgot, I also took one other shot last night! This was taken with the #dwarf3 's wide angle lens, and is only about 3 minutes of data.

It will look upside down for the Northern Hemisphere folks, but here we have all of #Orion or #Nyingarn (the echidna in #Noongar) in one frame.

A bit of light post-processing in Stellar Studio and #Snapseed.

The constellation of Orion, but upside-down as it has been shot from the Southern Hemisphere. Orion's Belt is in the centre of the frame .

Last night was surprisingly successful for #astrophotography. I shot five targets, and got good results for three of them. The fifth ... I'll add its data to my previous sessions later.

First up was the #Moon. At about 3/4 full, it is now a major issue for many targets, but makes for a great image itself, as the surface is mostly visible, but still has the sun hitting at an angle, so we get great shadows.

Second was the #TarantulaNebula , aka #C103 or #NGC2070 .

Next up was a bit of an experiment - #Orion 's Belt. This was a roughly 1 hour mosaic, and I am pretty pleased with how it has come out.

Last for the evening was the #BeehiveCluster or #M44. I don't often shoot clusters, but I thought this was in a good position. Sadly there is no nebulosity associated with it. Despite this, it has come up looking very pretty.

Here is a little collage of the evenings shots.

A grid collage of four astrophotographs. Top left is a 3/4 moon, top right is an open cluster of stars (The Beehive), bottom right is a blue nebula with a vertical extension showing red/orange (Tarantula Nebula), bottom left is a diagonal row of three stars (the Belt of Orion), the bottom star has a bright blue nebula around it, and a reddish extension just to the left.

It is the end of #Kambarang and the start of #Birak here in #Noongar Country. With that the Emu is setting early in the evening. As compensation, we are now getting the #EtaCarinaNebula instead.

So last night I did a mosaic shot of with with my #Dwarf3 #SmartTelescope from my back yard.

Only a couple of hours effective exposure, but I am really happy with the results.

2hrs 13 minutes, 60s@60, Ha/OIII filter.

From a few nights ago after a middlingly successful comet hunt. We had a look for the Andromeda Galaxy - which is currently peaking at 17 degrees above the horizon for us.

In this shot we get three Messier objects for the price of one! We get M31, M32, and M110 all in the one frame!

Shot over about an hour and a half as a 1x1.8 mosaic.

The top left to bottom right diagonal is filled with a Galaxy tipped at 45 degrees. There are clear dust lanes between the arms of the Galaxy. At right angles above the centre is another smaller galaxy, and there is a tiny dwarf galaxy visible in front of the bottom edge just below the centre. There is text detailing the technical aspects in the bottom corners. (This text is also in the body.)

A couple of weeks ago I shot IC434 - the Flame Nebula along with Barnard 33 - the Horsehead Nebula.

I added another 2.5 hours to that shot overnight, and the extra detail is amazing, even though the restacking rejected a lot of frames from both. In the end I got an extra hour of exposure.

The image is centred on Alnitak - one end of Orion's Belt. Off in the corner we have the middle of the belt, Alnilam.

To the right of Alnitak is NGC2024, and above and to the left is IC434 - The Flame Nebula, with the Horsehead Nebula on the right hand edge. In between the two nebulae, though, is a third one - NGC2023.

Also scattered around are three other tiny and/or faint nebulae - IC431, IC432 (both below NGC2024) and IC435 (to the right of NGC2023).

Lastly, in the top left quadrant we have Sigma Orionis.

So we have a lot going on, and it makes for a pretty composition (in my opinion).

An L-shape formed by two reddish nebulae with a bright star in the corner of the L is the centre of the image. Another bright star is in the bottom left corner, and there is a smaller blue nebula in between the arms of the L. On the upper arm of the L is the famous Horsehead dark nebula.

Something a little different.

The #Dwarf3 has three built-in filters, a visual filter (blocks IR and UV), the "Astro" filter which lets in IR, and an Ha/OIII filter.

Normally, for galaxies and clusters, you'd use the Astro filter to maximise the light getting into the sensor.

Last night I did something a little different. The Small Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf galaxy orbiting the Milky Way, and one of only a few galaxies visible to the naked eye. It is also close enough for us to see non-stellar objects. By using the Ha/OIII filter instead of the usual Astro filter, I was able to highlight and isolate the many star-forming regions in this galactic neighbour.

Taken as a 2x2 mosaic over just under 6 hours last night. 60s frames at gain 90. Postprocessed in #Snapseed and Stellar Studio.
