I studied, worked, and lived in Arcosanti, Arizona, in the 1970s. It has exemplified environmental dignity since its inception in 1970, and continues to today. Paolo Soleri's "arcologies" fuse architecture with ecology, and his Arcosanti Project preserves the surrounding Sonoran Desert's integrity rather than fragmenting it. Arcosanti demonstrates human settlements can honor nature's intrinsic worth while meeting human needs.

The other day, I did some training for an upcoming volunteer day for a forest program for urban youth, and we met at the Silvio Conte National Wildlife Refuge in Western Massachusetts USA, where a 1.5 mile trail has been constructed to be completely accessible for those with disabilities AND built to have minimal impact on the environment. Such a thoughtful design and a beautiful walk for all.
