"A new generation which has grown up with a fresh sense of involvement will make radical alterations in the overall character of the music scene. The symphony hall and the opera house will be treated for what they are: museums for keeping the treasures of the past. The real musical life will be governed again by music of its own time."

Imagine if the #fcc #notam warning network ran on distributed #Fediverse services…

This also isn't centralized industrial networking's first wake up call πŸ˜…

Community hubs will be the future. Scale was the problem and this is the fix, so no worries, it will happen. #thefutureislocal 😊

@m4th31st @feditips @homegrown

You can move your account, taking your followers, but your content stays behind. If the old site exists I believe content redirects, but if they close, be aware of keeping backups.

Or run your own service! Talk to @stux if you need hosting. There is no crime in having a one person or household node, in fact its the future!

There is clearly an opportunity to build a better future, one that commits to digital spaces that enhance our social and civic life; one that gives communities control over where and how they come together online.

This mini-rant about distributed perceptions strikes me as an good endorsement for the , letting people be who they are where they are, and granted .

@galaxis If @elonmusk really wants to foster microblogging where folks can make their own rules about what is or is not allowed, maybe he could toss some VC at the ? Way cheaper than trying to reform the entrenched!

"Imagine a music industry which, instead of investing in a single massive star called Elvis, distributed ten thousand stars, all recording for a dollar, in totally different styles, all appealing to small, highly self-conscious cults in a fragmented society. A society in a state of fabulous confusion, exploding into fragments. Our society, now."

Ok, I admit it, I grew tired of upgrades, security and spam right when the Platforms launched, and I thought yeah, wouldn't it be nice to just think about the content? Super-keen high-paid tech kids keeping the shop open 24-7, no more hot-swapping drives, no more sifting Kijiji for a compatible replacement for a 2yo 'vintage' CPU... What could possibly go wrong?

@st3fan many will be too young to remember, but we used to have these things called "Local Newspapers", often anything larger than a village might have two or more! What's more is they were all independently owned and operated, as weird as that might seem today.

Wouldn't it be fab if we had this sort of thing on the Fediverse?
