@mayintoronto for someone that might not be informed, what is your concern with #WealthSimple?

If millennials were chained to an abstract notion of “making it” in life mostly based on materialism, Gen Z are going to have it worse because #Wealthsimple just dropped a literal ranking of wealth accumulation so we can track how far/close we are to the 1% (or 0.1%, yes it actually goes there)

So, I've received another batch of identity-theft spam, targeting #Canada #Canadian #Canadians with #investment -related #IdentityTheft #scams.

The messages direct the target to update their US IRS W-8BEN forms, which require that you enter a bunch of personal information, and are probably stealing login and password and #2FA codes to get access to investment accounts.

Remind your family and friends, especially the elderly and non-tech-savvy folks to NEVER click links in eMails from banks or investment companies.

The targets this week are #TDBank, #NationalBank, but they have previously attempted to impersonate #Questrade and #RBC and #wealthsimple

Impact: Personal data of less than 1% of customers were stolen

Remediation:
- Breach notifications have been sent to affected customers

Yeah, they blame a 3rd party vendor, but how do we know they aren't just hiding their own incompetence? Better vetting woulda stopped this before it even happened. Now we’re left cleaning up the mess with credit monitoring. Classic.
