On Charlie Kirk and White America.

Kirk represented what’s wrong with White America. Someday, White American’s will wake up, look in the mirror and understand that they are the primary problem in this country. Then like an alcoholic, get into some form of rehabilitation in order to turn their lives around.

The United States is failing because White America has failed. We can’t blame anyone else. White Americans overwhelmingly control businesses, agriculture, religious institutions, government, courts, military, technology and social media, and the corporate media print, broadcast, and streaming services.

There are many causes, much like addiction has many causes. But the primary cause is lack of recognition by the person looking in the mirror. The lack of recognition that that person in the mirror is the cause, and that that person in the mirror must change their behavior. Wake up, look in the mirror, understand, and grow.

Finished up On the Media’s latest episode on the drive into town and started balling in the parking lot. Late in the episode, Bryan Stevenson recounts a story of a Black woman collecting soil from the site of a lynching, then a white man passes in a truck, circles back, and approaches her.

It was powerful and personal, reminded me how much shame many of us carry for the deeds of our distant ancestors and our parents/grandparents. In some ways, it’s understandable how white America glosses over or covers it with “Pride”—it’s easier to continue than admit it. Like any shame, facing it is *painful* and ugly.
