Finally got myself some nicer wine to store in my cantina for a few years. I absolutely adore Aglianico and I have been pointing at these Antonio Caggiano -Taurasi Macchia dei Goti for a while and when I saw an 11% discount I couldn't resist ang got two bottles. Never tried this producer before which is a bit of a gamble. Maybe I should have tried their Aglianico Taurì first... But you live only once #winelover #winenerd #wine #italianwine

#pumpkin #risotto paired with #timorasso #Derthona wine. It was complex, I could smell a seducing hint of petrol. Pity the acidity was a bit too strong for me but it got tempered down by the food #winetasting #winelover #winenerd

Any red wine can be a chilled red wine if you put it in the fridge a while. #winenerd

I finally got around to translating the first part of my travel blog to the Mythos Mosel 2023 event this year. Hopefully I find time for the second part sooner. Still it was a very nice event as in the last years and I thought it fits well as my first post here: saufwein.com/2023/07/mythos-mo

#cava and Chinese food last night. What a pairing. Not pictured was the egg drop soup which somehow ended up being the most unexpectedly delicious pairing I have had in a while

Beyond stoked to find this at a random wine shop for an insanely good price. Drink now or sit on it for a few more years? What do you think #wine peeps?

Xmas dinner wine! Drinking exceptionally well now, but I'm going to hold onto the other two bottles I have of this for several years. Dominant blueberry and blackberry on the nose and mid-palate, with a very structered peppery and tannic finish. A touch rough around the edges but stood up well to prime rib roast.

Not tooting my own horn, because I don't make the wine, but this stuff is awesome. I have been a Grade-A certified Petit Verdot hater ever since I tried my first one 10.years ago, but this is a game changer. So much fruit! So little tannin! Such a robust flavor! What is everybody else doing when they make this stuff?

An incredibly pleasant surprise! I was initially thinking that this would be past it's prime but just from the nose I could tell I was wrong. Beautiful tropical fruits are in every aspect of this wine, from the first smell all the way through the finish.

The age has already started to manifest in a soft honey note that gives way to a crisp minerailty on the finish. Just the perfect amount of sweetness rounds this out nicely.

2017 Glacial Till #riesling Finger Lakes 12%

Consistently one of the best values in #Rioja wines. Medium bodied, great acidity and tannin structure. A substantial amount of fruit still kicking here, lots of figs, plums, and even some blackberry. Just starting to pick up some tertiary notes of eucalyptus, leather, and even a touch of cedar.

Buy as much of this as you can. At $12 a bottle you can't afford not to.

It's a day that ends in Y that means it's a good time to drink Riesling

Drinking almost like a Cru Beaujolais! This wine is bursting at the seams with every red fruit you can think of and an absolutely mouthwatering finish full of acidity and just the barest hint of tannin. A real treat of a Cab Franc with a flavor profile that's uncommon in Virginia wines.

A little #introduction for my newsletter. It's free, it's called Wine Is Confusing, and it contains 2 sections. The first is Wine Corrections, where I explore myths, misconceptions, and debatable truths in wine. The second is my affordable pick of the month (I love to spotlight misunderstood regions).

November's newsletter attempted to clarify minerality, and I gushed about a Barbera with an umami note.

If you want access to my brain, you can upgrade to a paid membership and send me all the confusing wine labels in your life for a proper explanation.

Never a bad time for a glass of Riesling, especially from the Alsace

Bright, minerally, gobs of tropical fruit. Beautifully acidic on the finish.
