Winter Falls

This photo was taken in Mid-Winter in Yosemite Valley. One of my favorite times to be in the valley
This was taken from the swinging bridge that crosses the Merced River south of Yosemite Falls.
Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America. From top to bottom it measures 2, 425 feet. The upper portion of the falls, the Upper Falls as seen here has a drop of 1, 430 ft.

Winter Falls

This is an image of Yosemite Falls captured from the Swinging Bridge during a cold winter morning.
The Merced River flows in the foreground. There are small pieces of ice floating down the river but more importantly is the reflection of Yosemite Falls in the still water of the river.
The left bank of the river is composed mostly of tall pine trees. The right bank has mostly hardwoods growing along the river.
Yosemite Falls towers over Yosemite Valley. There is ice on both sides of the waterfall as it was cold enough for the mist to freeze against the rocks during the night.

Winter Falls
Captured from the swinging bridge in Yosemite Valley. The foreground of this image shows the ice cold water of the Merced River flowing through valley. In the water you can see what is known as frazzle ice. Ice that has not completely coalesced into a sheet.
Also to be see in the river is the reflections of the trees that border the river on both sides. Lastly, the reflection of Yosemite Falls lines up near the middle of the river.
The upper portion of the picture are the actual trees, cliffs, falls, and sky. The falls are displaying what is known as the Beard of Yosemite Falls created when the water coming over the falls hit the cliff walls and freeze during the night.
The overall image has a pinkish tint in it as this was captured early morning.
