It’s a lucky Friday… sort of. Not really. I am being a little sarcastic.

Last Friday I was super sick with a stomach issue. Today we get hit with a big scary issue at work that has lots of people in a near panicked state.

When I say I am lucky what I mean is I am lucky it happened today and not last Friday when I was a mess all day.

The last two days at work have really pushed me hard. Yesterday was honestly the worst day at work since I first started at this office. (And I’ve had some really bad days in the past.)

Today just started off badly. I received a verbal reprimand for doing something that other ppl have been doing daily for years. My boss called me and gave me a heads up before the reprimand came down from Corporate. I sincerely apologized and said it would not happen again and that I would let everyone else know that the matter cannot be repeated by anyone else. (That didn’t go over well but that’s not my problem.)

My boss said not to put too much into it but don’t allow it to happen again. I said “You have to be the one to tell everyone else as that’s outside my job duties.” I’m not making that point b/c I don’t want to deal with it but simply that at the end of the day, I’m still an hourly employee. I may have other responsibilities but I also recognize my limits.

I don’t love it when I get dragged into discussions at my home office about staffing and employee performance. I don’t know why there is an expectation that an employee can be pulled into another position, which does require a bit of skill and/or experience to perform, and wonder why said employee is “underperforming. They’re doing the best they can and even if they’re not, it’s not their regular job.

Yes, I understand that our client has expectations but when the client is presenting unreasonable expectations on one or more of my crew members, it makes me a bit angry. My crew is doing the best they can. Especially, considering the difficult work conditions we sometimes endure, I’m grateful for everything they do.
