Brudo Cadamar is a disabled athlete competing at the 27th Imperium Martial Games. A swimmer and a mountain chariot driver, Cadamar was on-track to continue his family legacy as a Games-bound weightlifter. A climbing accident put Brudo in a chair, but did nothing to dampen his competitive spirit. A devout cleric of Ka, goddess of strength and competition, Cadamar's putting Team Oyster Islands on his back in search of Games gold.

Text: Brudo Cadamar, Team Oyster Islands, competing in swimming and mountain chariot. Image: A tanned, olive-skinned man with blocky, chiseled features. He is in a yellow and blue athletic jumpsuit, and is seated in a "combat wheelchair" fashioned from wood and steel. While holding the wheelchair in a "wheelie" position with his left hand on a wheel rim, he is throwing a glowing bolt of magic at something out of frame on the left.

One of the cornerstones of the Yewdar worldbuilding project from the outset has been that evil is *mundane.*

There are no flatly evil deities, even the ones whose domains are unpleasant. Even the daemons trying to unmake Yewdar aren't evil. They're chaotic to destructive degrees. They're devastating in the way a natural disaster is devastating, but neither is evil.

True evil comes from mortals. From us. From the frail and the flawed. The weak and the willing.

Got more complete details on my party.

- Infernis Bard, Olympic volleyball player
- Half-dwarf Seraph, Paralympic swimmer; uses combat wheelchair on land
- Half-goblin Rogue, underground sports bookkeeper
- Human Brawler, Olympic hackeysack player
- Human Warrior, Olympic blitzball player & high-jumping dragoon

So four competitors from two different nations, and one spectator who is absolutely trying to profit off the games. Lots of fun places to go with that.

One of my players produced a beefcake paralympic swimmer for their player character, with an accompanying HeroForge model.

If you're going to serve beefcake, I'm going to cook.

A faux magazine cover for an imagined sports magazine named "Tamapoor Sport Illustrated." A speedo-clad tanned and muscled swimmer is shown floating on their back in a pool. The cover reads: "The Games Issue." The featured piece is titled "Back in Backstroke: Competition, Convalescence, and Brudo Cadamar," written by Phidelia Jeppesen. Additional pieces are listed: "A Generation Going for Gold," "Noisy Neighbours," "The University Games," and a dubious headline promising "everything you need to know about Tamapoor 857 and the XXVIIth Imperium Martial Games."

Me: "OK, what's your character?"

Player: "Minotaur cleric of the time god. Defender of the timelines, one of the Chronal Wardens. Think Dr. Strange by way of Doctor Who and Green Lantern."

Me: "I gotchu, fam."

A minotaur man colored like a Highland cow dressed in flowing white and green robes. In his hand he holds a long staff with a crescent-shaped hook at the top. Inside the crescent glowing magics form into a nesting series of gears and clock hands sweeping outward from the head of the staff. Pink and yellow lightning dances across the clock hands and gears, and a swirling distorted clock pattern spirals inward toward the center of the staff head. Across this spectacle is written the name "Dumok Suun."

It is my hope that this collage of dwarves going about their days will tell a viewer everything they need to know about Mother Ka's Stony Children.

#yewdar #Daggerheart

A Daggerheart-style Ancestry card for a variant of Dwarf: "Dwarves are most easily recognized as short humanoids with square frames, dense musculature and thick hair.

Thick Skin: When you take Minor damage, you can mark 2 Stress instead of marking a Hit Point.

Kayfabe: You ignore disadvantage on Strength rolls."

The art on the top half of the card shows four dwarves over a mountain backdrop. They are, from left to right:
- Essentially Lemmy Kilmister as a dwarf
- A stout blonde lady in a leisure suit that bears a striking resemblance to Rodney Dangerfield
- An armored knight with a flaming axe riding large winged griffin
- A luchador in full mask and regalia in mid leap during a wrestling match.

When PCs graduate into NPCs in my games, I like to make sure they get a commensurate glow up. Here's an old pal named Saoirse who went from being an antisocial outdoorsy dwarf who liked hiking and hated being a "lady" to becoming a 3'10" Wonder Woman who has saved nations and downed ale with the Dweomertouched, children of gods.

#yewdar #worldbuilding

A red-haired dwarf woman in dark heavy plate mail armor riding astride a green griffon (a feathered winged creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle with talons on the front limbs.) The woman carries a flaming axe, the light from which casts a stark glow around her face that contrasts her with the gloomy darkness of the background.

The woman is named as Saoirse Rockhelm. A description reads as follows: "A founding member of the Talonbreakers, Lady Saoirse is both a fierce defender of her mountain homeland and a desirable match for many a politically-minded Dwarven scion... until they find that she has no designs on matriarchy or power whatsoever. The Lily of Grimspire lives solely by her own justice."

Typical Aqori theocrat logic:
- Sport is ritual
- Ritual is a doorway to the divine
- The Church must guard all doorways to the divine
- The Church must co-opt sport as a sanctioned act of worship

Nailing down vibes for my towns and villages.

Tamapoor: capital city, big "Marcia Brady" firstborn kid energy.
Kauaha Anchorage: Big foreign navy base. Studiously confused mass of "hey, these folks are cool, we should help 'em out" mixed with "...why are they so pissy we're here?"
Blue Hook: We're more than just a place to moor your boat, honest!
Windface Beach: What if I told you that you could be a merchant banker and a surfer bum at the same time?

Slowly making "baseball card" previews for some of my game's dramatis personae. Helps me condense the vapor of idea and concept into a concrete character, and gives me a nice reference to hand to players.

#yewdar #worldbuilding #ttrpg

A character preview for Rhodney Petaborn: An elderly Black human man on a dirt path in a village. He has greying hair trimmed into a tight flat-top coiffure. He wears a white tank-top under a black-grey unbuttoned shirt with blue denim shorts and leather sandals. He walks with a cane in his left hand. In his right hand he holds a clean but well-used cleaver. Rhodney's left eye is scarred with a milky pupil, suggesting that he is sight-impaired in that eye.

A description of Mr. Petaborn reads:
The fourth-generation owner of the Hideaway at Long Bay in Tamapoor.
Mr. Petaborn is known around the city to be a cantankerous old coot who is
exceptionally choosy about the guests he invites to stay at his landmark villas
on Tamapoor’s famous beach. The tiny farm on his estate yields some of
the best produce on the island.

Stratistrology: The dwarves basically have astrology, but instead of the stars they read the rock.

The neighborhood now known as Games Village in Tamapoor was originally called Middentown. It was a vibrant community in the heart of the city that was, predictably, gutted to make way for the XXVIIth Imperium Martial Games.

There will be 38 sports at the XXVIIth Imperium Martial Games, including traditional classics like track & field, gymnastics, wrestling... but also uniquely fantasy sports like aerial mounted events, a field analogue to TRON's Disc Wars, and Magitak, a sort of cross between darts and slalom racing with magic spells.

Think "esport for sorcerers" and you're not far off the mark.

Here is a handout map I've made for the next #ttrpg campaign I'm running. It's a tropical island capital, home to lots of shipping, tourism, trade... and this year's "Olympics."

The city (and island) were originally designed in QGIS. A raster export from QGIS then got imported into Wonderdraft as a reference for drawing this. The colored splotches are neighborhoods of the city. It's absolutely a WIP, but I'm feeling kinda happy with where it's going.

#yewdar

A large map of a fictional city. The city lies on the southwest coast of a tropical island, with a large seashore and a bustling port. There are dozens of neighborhoods. There is a large historic castle on a hill overlooking the city, and a lot of shipping docks and tourist traps. The city is called Tamapoor, the capital of the Oyster Islands and seat of Grand Nacre Island.

The Imperium Martial Games are being held in Tamapoor, Oyster Islands during the summer of 857:Mourning, and I'm getting the city ready for it's time as the focus of Yewdar's sporting world...

A map of a coastal city on a tropical island called Grand Nacre. The island is very hilly with four river valleys joining at the ocean along the southwest coast. The city of Tamapoor is located at the confluence of these rivers.
