Indians take pride in producing a large number of science and engineering graduates so much so that it has given rise to the cliche of the Indian society valuing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and medicine) education greatly. How does one reconcile this pride with the propensity of Indian STEM graduates for propagating pseudoscience that should be obvious to any rational human being? The answer to this lies partly in the uncomfortable and complicated relationship between middle class India and science.

P Sainath is giving a talk on 'The Impact of Covid-19 on the Poor'.

Palagummi Sainath is an Indian journalist who focuses on social & economic inequality, rural affairs, poverty and the aftermath of globalization in India. He is the founder editor of the People's Archive of Rural India and a senior fellow for Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. 

He is a Ramon Magsaysay awardee and was the former Rural Affairs Editor at The Hindu. Sainath was instrumental in bringing national attention to the farming sector distress through his writings.
His book 'Everybody Loves a Good Drought' is a chronicle of his life covering rural India.

The Free Software Movement of India expresses deep concern over sections of the Ministry of Home Affairs order dated May 1 with regard to the Aarogya Setu app. The order mandates 100% use of the app in containment zones and the use of the app in all workplaces where restrictions are being eased. The app which was initially voluntary has now been made mandatory despite concerns of both efficiency and privacy.

The key problem with the app is

👁🗨 It can be used for surveillance not just for Covid-19 tracking but also for all other activities a citizen can do: who she/he meets, where a person goes, and what meetings that they participate in.

:warning: This app is under the Ministry of Home Affairs and not Ministry of Health and Family Welfare gives it an added cause for concern.

🗑 There should be the provision that once the Covid-19 emergency is over, the data should be deleted and not kept with the government

ఆరోగ్య సమస్య ఉన్నదనుకునేవారికి కనీస ఆరోగ్య సలహా అందడమనేది కొంతలో కొంత ఊరట. తెలంగాణా, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ లల్లో నివాసం ఉంటున్న ప్రజలందరూ దీనిని వినియోగించుకోవచ్చు. మీ బంధూ మితృలందరికీ ఈ విషయాన్ని చేరవేయాల్సిందిగా విజ్ఞప్తి.
