Holiday music occupies a special place in our hearts - and ears.

I sat down for a conversation with Live Happy's Paula Felps, where we explored the reasons these tunes connect with us (and our emotions) so deeply.

I'm fascinated with research into cognitive bias and its impact on decision making.

Here's a paper I co-authored on "source effects" in the evaluation of advertising music by ad professionals (and nonprofessionals) - and the potential negative financial impact that can result from that bias.

We're leaving the world of and to explore the costs and benefits of , , and in settings.

I enjoyed working on this with Charles Spence, who heads up the research laboratory at . With over 250 citations, it's a decent review of the literature on the subject.

One more bit of research on the / / front:

"Commercializing Sonic Seasonings in Multisensory Offline Experiential Events and Online Tasting Experiences"

This a "pracademic" approach, sharing not only the science, but its practical application in .

It's also not behind a journal paywall...

"Making sustainable foods (such as jellyfish) delicious"

Continuing with the theme of & , this publication details a multi-sensory design approach to cuisine.

@bomboloni @mike

I'm in as well, and have noticed the same...even on public transport. I still mask up on BART, in Ubers, and in airports/on airplanes.

@thescont

You'll find my email in my LinkTree on my profile. Feel free to connect.

At some point I'll be sharing the research we did measuring the impact of racialized listening on ad favorability and effectiveness, building on Stoever's work re: the sonic color line. Given your expertise in ethnographic, that might be of interest as well.

Always happy to engage in "knowledge transfer" 😏

@thescont :

Great project. It was interesting to see what some of the students were entering on the map.

I noticed there's a lot of tags outside of LA. If you have any students in Nashville, I could try to organize something off the beaten path (backstage at the Grand Ole Opry, studio s, Interviews with labels/publishers). Near Binghamton, NY, might chat with Jennifer Lynn Stoever about her Soundwalk project.

Also happy to set up interviews with our Music Genome team at Pandora.

From "spicy sounds" to "salty sounds" - a bit of research we did in pursuit of finding a crossmodally congruent soundtrack that could be used as a sound/flavour sensory hack.

As I dip my toe into the tooting waters, I thought I might start with some research shares.

This is from one of my first "sonic seasoning" studies, on the hunt for a soundtrack that would impact perceptions of the spiciness (piquancy) of food.

@DavidCorn : I followed your prompt from twitter which landed me on your mastodon.social page (where you seem to be "tooting"). I've found the phone app to be a bit buggy - and have resorted to the web version for edits/etc. As @CrooksandLiars suggested, you can merge the two...glad to see you here!
