@tk I use often screws or banana connectors even on 2m antennas and had not that much problems with it.

I read some more of the older thread and saw that there are maybe more general problems with your setup because of the walls etc. : What happens if you fold the ends of the dipols down, so that they are not so near to the wall?

If nothing like that works because of the disadvantageous environment. You may have to try other antenna concepts like magnetic loop antennas.

@tk I read, that you target the 6m band. So you have maybe an issue with the magnetic material. Or too much parasitic capacitance? (just guessing)
What happens if you connect a 50 Ohm resistor to the BalUn instead of the antenna?

Das nächste #AfuBarcamp steht vor der Tür: Kommenden Dienstag treffen sich wieder ein paar Dutzend Amateurfunkbegeisterte virtuell und tauschen sich über verschiedenste Themen aus. Dran kommt Barcamp-typisch, was die Teilnehmenden an Themen so mitbringen.

@9v1rt Ok, yes if you want something higher level, WiFi is a good solution. There you can also use MQTT to control your device.
I wanted something more low-lewel, because I use very small microcontrollers (e.g. ATTiny) and it would be enough for me if one member of the bus offers the user interface.

Thanks for the inputs.

Latest version of FreeDATA looks much better then version before. If you like VARAc, maybe you will like FreeDATA with open source codec2 even more. #hamradio #hf freedata.app

Is there any wide-spread communication bus used for connecting ham radio station equipment?
I want to improve my setup to tune my magnetic loop antenna.
Currently I communicate with my SWR-meter and the antenna's capacitor via RS-232, which was fine for prototyping purposes but I want everything on one bus. Maybe something RS-485 based?

Has ham radio reached its technological apex? I realize there is new cool stuff on the horizon, but a lot of it feels like re-mixes of existing technologies not something advances the art and science of radio itself in a citizen-scientist kind of way.

Am I wrong?

@profoundlynerdy I think the steps are just small ones if you observe development in near time.
But over some years you can feel that something went forward.
It also depends on the amount of people that actively do experiments.
In the place where I live it feels like a decreasing number.

Where I actually see advances that are based on newer knowledge: freedv.org/radio-autoencoder/

Still buggy, but we are getting there.

@VE7WYC Maybe the switch switches between the 300 and the 75 ohms line while the plug is for the receiver.
This would make sense if you see the drawing as description of what the switch does.

@dh1tw I had my first #RADE QSO a few months ago. Except for some sync problems it was a full success with good readable and natural-sounding voice quality.
The whole approach in this mode is something new and seems very promising to me.

Today, I took some time to investigate the cause of the clicking sounds in my #M17 transmission using EnCodec and Vocos models as the codec.

After 5 minutes, I realized that I had forgotten to update the software on the receiver side. That’s why the local echo tests worked well while the transmission did not.

Here is a sample with the correct software versions running:

@N1ZZZ @inaction_figure Yes, this can happen fast. One has to use it often to get an expert.
I did this for fun at school. Sometimes I was faster than the others with their electronic calculators ;)

@N1ZZZ C and D are logarithmic scales that range from one to 10. With this knowledge, it should be easy to spot. A and B go from 1 to 100 and are mainly used to calculate roots and squares.
