#today is going to be all about timing. I'm going back to the basics and working in 20 minute blocks of time. It's been a battle to focus on anything lately, so maybe giving myself defined blocks of time to work will help. I've got 3.5 short, fast articles, edits to an ebook, and an outline of a feature article to start drafting. #productivity #work #focus

I just realized I'm seriously considering quitting work early to wash the windows. This is a high level of donwanna.

I only took two pictures on today's walk, which ended up being almost twice as long as planned. I'm still moving slower than usual, but it felt good to be outside. #takeawalk #getoutside #bluesky

@OtterForce Sunny and warm is pleasant. This whole winter has been a few days of 60s, then rain, then below freezing again. I need to figure out what to do about the burnout. Maybe try a different type of writing or something to change things up a little.

@OtterForce Drafting, drafting, drafting, then edits, then a couple of short things. I'm feeling sort of burned out and have been feeling that way for several months, which is very unusual. The sun is shining today after fog all day yesterday and rain all night last night. Also it's really warm.

At some point in the very near future, I need to clean out my cabinet and freezer, inventory the food we have, and start planning meals around using it up. I hate this chore because the organization only lasts for about a week, especially in the cabinet, which is in a corner and oddly shaped so things can hide/get lost easily. Even with a meal plan every week, I forget about stuff.

@david_castleton Added to my Feedly! (which I neglect often, but your blog looks super interesting)

@david_castleton Those folks were *wild*.

I like this photo, also, because it shows how blue everything looks in the fog. No filter here, just the eerie outside. #trees #takeawalk #outside #fog

Fog in the woods is magic. I took a ton of photos, but I really like this one of a big oak tree and my family's shared garage (it's on my grandparents' property, which we inherited collectively). #fog #tree #takeawalk #outside

@nlowell @OtterForce Pinto beans, fried squash, garden tomato and cucumber slices, and potatoes in cream sauce instantly puts me at my Granny's kitchen table, asking my Papaw 4,000 questions.

2023-01-18

@nlowell @OtterForce I hope the beans and bread are culinary perfection :) I'm resisting the coffee, but having a blackberry sparkling water.

Time for a foggy walk. It's not raining, it's not cold, and I think my brain and the pups could use some time outside, even if it is in the fog.

@ThatRabbiCohen It's important to be prepared! For emergency cookie situations.

Ooof... While I was never a big part of the latest platform to go kaput—and I'm sure I'm late to discover this— it resonates from previous losses... All of this and more.

"I’m so tired of just harmlessly getting together with other weird geeks and going to what amounts to a digital pub after work and waking up one day to find every pint poisoned. ...

Don’t give up, don’t let them have this world. Love things. Love people. Love the small and the weird and the new."

I'm thinking I want nachos for dinner, but I also want a good dose of veggies. Current plan: add sautéed spinach, black beans, tomato, onion, and red bell pepper for the toppings. Add shredded cheese, pop it under the broiler, then put slices of avocado on top. This seems like a reasonable and possibly satisfying alternative to the ground beef/cheese sauce version I was craving. Anyone got a healthy nachos recipe they love? #food #cooking #whatsfordinner

@OtterForce I've been suffering from the weird loop of being too tired and dragged down to exercise, then not tired enough to sleep because I didn't exercise for the last week. Not sure if what I've had is covid (tested negative) but it sure seems like it. You have my sympathy! Lots of stuff in Shouldland around here.

2023-01-18

@OtterForce I had coffee with lunch and it's going to be a real battle to not have another cup at about 4pm. But that would be a very bad idea, so I'm going to try not to!

2023-01-18

#today I'm working on edits to a project that is not too much fun, a longer, feature-style article outline (I did 4-5 interviews for it, so there's a lot of information to wrangle), and three short, fast pieces. It's foggy, and likely to rain off and on. Not sure I'll have a chance for a walk but some kind of physical activity is going to be necessary. Also need to think up something fun or unusual to enjoy.

Ever wake up, then take like a full hour to be, you know, actually awake? I fell back asleep after the alarm clock went off and must have slept really hard for about 15 minutes. Then my partner made a noise and I woke up. That was half an hour ago, and I'm still not fully here. I've even already had a cup of coffee. C'mon, brain! Let's enjoy this day!
