Good day!

It’s actually cold. That’s saying a lot this winter.

Evie Cat was racing around like it’s spring. Now, though, she’s gone back to bed. She does that.

While I have my morning coffee, she sleeps. I’ve never had a cat that snuggles at night like Evie Cat.

Be everwell.

The image is almost exactly divided between dark and light. Below, the woody brush is covered in snow that makes it appear white. Above, in the distance, the dark trunks of conifers create contrast.

Since I couldn't go to work yesterday, I went for a walk in the bush- keeping an ear on the trees- with winds potentially gusting to 100km/62mi per hour, I was alert for falling branches or whole trees- a couple of times I thought-okay- time to move along!
Here's an 8 minute video featuring some of the crazy blowing snow with bonus of some cute birds in the yard eating seeds :)

Video thumbnail, showing me- an old white guy with short grey goatee and darkened glasses, wearing grubby off-black workpants, a worn faded black hoody with a winter hat under the hood showing a small Canadian flag decal and cheap knit gloves in off-black and white with a geometric pattern. I've been roughly cut out and plopped onto a background looking through the trunks of trees with snow blowing through up to a couple of metres above ground. The text march storm in large bold white text and country life canada in semi-bold smaller text appear on the image.

I found some moss in my backyard and put a bit together 😊
Let’s see what happens 🤔

Good day!

One berry in the snow.

So, last Saturday I submitted my taxes, so that’s done. Finishing that eased my stress levels.

Meanwhile, the days are mostly cloudy with periods of drizzle like we’d normally have in late April.

For me, it’s good writing weather.

Be everwell.

Even while hiking, this single berry amidst green leaves stood out against the snow background high on the saddle between mountains. I wasn’t expecting to see red.

Kept it to just 2 miles in the spring sunshine today! The birds are singing, the coastal willows are leafing out, and the wild cucumber is in bloom!

1-This is my longest video to date, around 26 min: new chainsaw, Narnia frost, melting days, chickadees, grouse, dragging logs, admiring moss +lichens.. a taste of my life here in Western Alberta, Canada. some talk, fairly gentle music and some nature sounds.
For the moment only a YT link- I'm enquiring (in replies) to see how large I can go with files on #Spectra so stay tuned.

A picture of me- an old white guy in grubby black work pants and black hoodie with a winter hat under it. I'm standing by a wooden bench holding a bow type hand saw and my dollar store cammo ski gloves. The picture of me has been roughly stripped of background and I'm pasted onto the right side of a picture of frost covered poplar tree tops against a blue sky. The words january in large white 'impact' font and country living in smaller less bold white appear to the left.

Good day!

I took this from the saddle below Mt. Sentinel. That’s University Peak on the left.

The dramatic drop to my immediate left into Hellgate Canyon was unnerving.

Good day!

We turn clocks ahead in the US tonight. I hope we don’t lose anyone. Time travel can get messy, especially when politicians are telling you how to do it.

I always wonder if there’s anyone who actually climbs out of bed at the designated hour to change them?

Be everwell.

The view looks between snow laden conifers from up high and over the clouds below to glimpse the shoulder on another mountain beneath a gray sky. This view existed for only a moment before the clouds erased it. It’s the cold of winter combined with exhilaration.

Good day!

Well, I’m not crazy. Not entirely. I am a writer, after all.

To this point, we’ve officially had the warmest winter on record for this region, which is the northern Rockies.

No subzero days, and few that failed to climb over freezing.

Be everwell.

East Branch Indian Creek, PA

This is one of those small creeks only local kids would fish 🤔
Never actually fished it myself, but I spotted several nice spots 😉
Next time I come back, I will definitely fish😊

Good day!

What do I dislike about my iPhone’s weather app, to which they’ve added AI?

Rather than nuance, it’s absolutely certain in its wrongness.

Yesterday: ZERO chance of moisture until evening. It rained all day. Too, forecasts swing wildly every 15 minutes.

Be everwell.

Out for a 6,000 step hike on this glorious Wednesday. Sunny and +7°C means a light unzipped spring coat. Lots of melting going on but snowbanks on the sreets are still 4 to 5 feet high. A warm weekend with considerable rain might bring some flooding.
The ice on Lake Simcoe is apparently still pretty thick. We stopped at a couple of shoreline parks used as on-ramps and snowmobiles were active today taking advantage of the weather. About half of the fishing shacks on Cooks Bay have been hauled in to shore but lots left that need to be removed.

It's very sunny and she is squinting because she forgot her sunglasses.Harley the tan coloured dog is sitting on top of a tall snowbank overlooking Lake Simcoe. Just her head, in profile, covers the left side of the photo while the snow covered Lake fills the right side. Far out in the lake, perhaps halk a kilometer or more, you can see a few dozen ice fishing huts.
