One idea, two paintings, 20 years apart

I'mPainted in 2004, I wanted to keep it simple.

Using the entire surface of the canvas In this image, I reimagined the black and white yin/yang symbol by painting two identical sized. Paisley shapes.
One side is a cresting ocean wave and the other side is a colorful pit of fire with the flames slow burning on the Paisley edge .
I was going to put a different image of the same thing 20 years later but alas, it seems mastodon is having a not -so-fresh feeling

I was a casual observer as i painted this one. I realised this morning that the water half has a poorly thought out vaguely steampunk assemblage that is too close to looking like an actual face for my liking. I did zero planning/sketches but I kept adding details with my fingers crossed
This was finished yesterday.
