Tuesday night after the rain came this unbelievable sunset over Little Rabbit Lake.
Birthday weekend all set. Heading back to the western U.P. for the first time in 3-ish years. Thought about TRNP, Badlands, Grand Marais & the driftless before booking. I'll save those others for another time. Looking forward to all the solo photography, hiking, biking and kayaking I can do in 4 days.
This shot was from last time I was in Michigan in Oct 2021
I've got a bit of a complicated history with the place I grew up. Really, I'm sure a lot of us do. However, as difficult as that past was, there are some amazing things about it. There is some great natural beauty like this. There are some amazing people doing great things. From here on, that's what I'll choose to focus on rather than that past. Time and distance has taken care of it all. #waterfall #minnesota #photography #LandscapePhotography

Red Lodge, the Beartooths & Yellowstone were amazing & there are a lot of photos to come.
The harmony has been off this year when it comes to photography. I’m trying to get back at it. Vacation helped. I’ve missed the camera and the photo editing screen.
Let’s make the second half of the year way more productive & fun than the first.

Last night’s blood red moon over Lake Superior in Duluth. It’s been way too long since I’ve felt the peace of the inland freshwater sea come over me. #fullmoon #lakesuperior #LandscapePhotography #Photography #Minnesota
In ~2014, my colleague & I argued that social media (esp. Twitter) had become part of the critical infrastructure of disaster response. People were turning to Twitter during crises to share information about impacts and resources. Disaster responders were using the data shared there for situational awareness, and were communicating in real-time with their constituents. Today’s events underscore just how dangerous it is for society to come to rely on private platforms as critical infrastructure.
Happy Enshittification Day! 💥
July 1, 2023: Reddit cuts off API access, Twitter requires login, Youtube may ban ad-blockers, Meta & Google block news in Canada...
A half-year since Cory Doctorow's seminal thesis on #enshittification, how corporate platforms die (https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys), and every corporate site seems hell bend on its own destruction.

@ManitouRyan unfortunately I did get sucked back in for a bit thanks to sports, but now that the NHL free agency is mostly done, I can get back to this.
I also really haven’t been shooting much, so not a ton to say.
Oh hi, Mastodon! I’ve missed you! #oldfaithful #yellowstone #nationalparks #Sunset #LandscapePhotography
So, apparently I “misunderstood” what “bottomless brunch” meant…
Cuz, everyone else here is wearing pants.
@AaronGleeman but he got paid, which is what he wanted

This morning finally felt like the start of autumn in Sydney - a nice snap in the air.
A still dawn allows for Rozelle Bay to mirror the city, ANZAC Bridge, a concrete factory and a yacht storage building.
I feel like when life gets so heavy as it has both publicly and privately over the last few weeks, that the universe shows up to remind us that the world is still a beautiful, amazing, awe-inspiring place.
Here's to soaking in all that the world has to offer, leaning hard into the beauty & learning all the lessons there are to learn. Even (especially) the difficult ones.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m still lacking words for how to describe what I witnessed last Thursday. All I know is that I’m astonished every time I go through the 400 or so photos I made that night & have no idea how to whittle them down to the best. There are such subtle intricacies in some & who can say what image is better? This is a very pleasant “problem” to have. #photography #LandscapePhotography #northernlights #aurora #auroraborealis #cuyuna #minnesota
Here's something you don't see everyday here in MN. This panoramic photo captures the southwest to northeast sky with the center being due west. The moon is setting behind the trees on the far left. Absolutely mind blowing. A night I'll never forget. #NorthernLights #aurora #auroraborealis #Photography #LandscapePhotography #Minnesota
Thank you, snowboarding. You're so wonderful for the physical and mental. You're my favorite way to commune with nature in the cold weather months. Here's hoping to a few more turns before the snow is gone & many more years of sliding sideways down a hill carving squiggly lines in fresh, white, powdery canvas. The ultimate flow state.
Love you.
