Friends John and Pancakes came with, little P is cowboy Corgi, Blue Heeler Corgi Mix. Yes that's a thing 😜. Peak florescence up top, good snow for the 4-leggeds. 3100m here about 5km down from the start. 3840m Silver Run Pk. way in back.

John does a lot of mountain distance running. He stashed his car at bottom last nite, so we could do a thru hike. Then drove me back to mine when we finished. 3100m here.

looking east down into the dry low desert 1150-1300m.

the steep descent down Mt. Maurice trail offers 3 little stream crossings, very necessary.

June 19, 1983, 42 years ago today: A vast open field, Symms Gap Meadow, ran across the crest towards the middle of the ridge walk. Some decent views through the haze into West Virginia gave me the bit of a lift I needed. I made somewhat better time over the last half of the day, although I was still not impressive.

It is a steamy summer day with a bright white sky. We are standing at the bottom of a long meadow, gently-sloping upwards towards the summit of a knob. The grass is trod-down and short in the path, but rather high in the rest of the meadow. There are many yellow dandelions scattered through the grass. There are a few trees scattered along the edges of the field, most of them are covered with sprouting small green leaves and white flowers. Beyond the knob, another mountain chain, though not very far away, is barely visible through the thick haze.

June 19, 1983, 42 years ago today: Several drenching thundershowers struck around noon but did absolutely nothing to alleviate the oppressiveness of the day. In fact, they made matters worse. When the sun returned, there was plenty of new moisture to be drawn back up into the air. All the underbrush growing over the trail was dripping wet.

It is a steamy summer day with a bright white sky. We are standing atop a ridge crest at a lookout through and above the trees. Lots of low hazy clouds are hanging over the valley below as the morning sun burns off the morning moisture. The valley is mostly wooded, but there are some farm buildings and fields visible. A wooded ridge similar to ours flanks the far side of the valley.
