Oof. Morpheus in 1999 talking about how Ai brought about the downfall of humanity in the early part of the 21st century.

Morpheus from The Matrix. Laurence Fishburne shaved gap toothed handsome smart man in 1990s style futuristic cool clothes and mirror shades with no ear holder bits. He's saying We marveled at our own magnificence as we gave birth to Ai.

You're amazing and deserve to be celebrated.

Regular reminder that just because funding was cut by the government, PBS is still here. You can donate $5 or more and get access to a ton of their stuff on streaming too, including lots of local shows. It's a good deal.

Same with NPR. The funding cut sucks but I can still listen to my local Detroit NPR's music shows

Panel 1: The Thirsty Scientist sits across from an HR representative at a table in an office. The HR representative says, "We feel your research team has gotten a bit distracted." Panel 2: The HR representative, looking stern, says, "There have been some complaints about 'inappropriate spending' of grant money." Panel 3: The Thirsty Scientist, now looking shocked, responds, "I'm shocked. I can assure you, all funds go into cutting-edge research." Panel 4: A jump cut to a lab setting, where the Thirsty Scientist stands next to a large, muscular alien statue. She says, "All right, which one of you scumbags ratted me out?" Two lab technicians in the background look nervous.

Forced to use AI at work, hate it. Usage is monitored so I can't avoid it. I've set up mine to play a Sim City clone. It burns through tokens, making crap cities that quickly go bankrupt. Just been told that I'm getting a bonus for being a top user.

TL:DR Encouragement for newer Mastodon users and explanation of my personal follow logic.

Folks who follow me here. I get quite a few followers and I don't always notice or follow back immediately because there's a lot of noise in my mentions, and I'm a bit chaotic generally.

I don't want to offend anyone and appreciate you signing up to hear my bullshit, so as a rule of thumb for a follow back, if you post or boost a lot of politics I'm probably not going to follow, I have way too much already, this is my happy place.

If we've not interacted, then I often don't notice. I'm here to talk, so if people talk to me it's a conversation and if I realise you follow me already but I missed it, often that will prompt me. Don't be shy.

If you just want to silently rubberneck at my ongoing car crash of nonsense then we're all good too.

I say all this because when I very first started here it felt a bit alien and cliquey, but over time I learnt it was ok to join in, and people were accepting, as long as I read the room and got the vibe.

I absolutely love it here, it's a revelation for me personally, and I hope it is for others too.

I was once on the outskirts, looking at the, as I saw them, "cool kids" talking amongst themselves, and it can appear like that, but it's not. If you're polite, and don't get weird (in a bad way, we're all weird here) folks will, in my experience, be nice.

Don't be a dick, join in and you can find your people.

Love to all the Fedifolk, new and old ❤️

We're not perfect but fuck me, look at the alternatives.

From bluesky:

Posit that to be judged for a sin implies that information about the sin is available to god/jesus.

Information implies entropy implies energy implies mass.

...so you can run an attack on heaven by sinmaxxing so hard Christ converts into a black hole from sheer acquired mass-energy and oneshots God by trapping him in something not even His light can escape from
