The poster announces a “Colonial Photography Workshop” on July 28, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m. It is conducted by Dr. Kokou Azamede and Prof. Hans Peter Hahn. The text explains how colonial photography was used as propaganda to justify colonialism in Europe and discusses its problematic cultural heritage. It questions the relevance, narratives, and usage of colonial images today. The sepia-toned photo depicts a colonial-era scene, showing a group of European soldiers posing with local individuals in traditional attire. The soldiers are in uniform, holding weapons, while the locals stand with neutral expressions, creating a stark contrast between the groups. The backdrop features tropical foliage. The event will be held in English at the University of Freiburg, HS 1132. The bottom features the university’s logo and a Mastodon link: https://bawü.social/@GRK2571.

African Heritage In Europe: Join a special screening of “Dahomey” and “If Objects Could Speak” on 24 July at 19:30, hosted by Kommunales Kino Freiburg (Urachstr. 40, 79102 Freiburg). Both films address the colonial appropriation of African cultural objects and pose vital questions about restitution, identity, and justice.

Afterwards, Dr. Kokou Azamede (Université Lomé, Togo) and filmmaker Elena Bauer will discuss these issues on a panel moderated by Dr. Richard Legay (ABI). This event is organised by our local partners and we highly recommend attending.

Galaxy’s not just for genomics anymore — it’s making waves in materials science!

A muon spectroscopy study on redox-active metal hydrides used Galaxy to explore hydrogen radical chemistry in {2Fe2S} centers. A strong example of #OpenScience connecting chemistry, computation, and collaboration.
