NEW WORK & LOCATION

This is the Rumbling Kern, near Howick in Northumberland. We've explored a lot of the Northumberland coast, but this area was new to us and we were ASTOUNDED by what we found. Crazy geology!

There's more photos from here, just nip over to my website -> iancylkowski.com/blog/2025/6/8 ๐Ÿ‘

I'm back from a week in Northumberland, celebrating my loved one's 50th birthday.

First, welcome to Cheswick Sands, an obscure part of the Northumberland coastline. No facilities, no shops, no infrastructure; just miles of beach punctuated with otherworldly rocks.

There's LOADS more images from this day, loads. Wanna peek? Go here -> iancylkowski.com/blog/2025/6/1 ๐Ÿ‘

NEW WORK: The historical ruins of Jervaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire.

I've been meaning to explore this place for YEARS, but have seemingly never got round to it. Finally managed to sort that out recently. Incredible place that fills you with a sense of awe.

There's more photos from this day, and they await your eyeballs here -> iancylkowski.com/blog/2025/5/1 ๐Ÿ‘

A sunlit scene of the ruins at Jervaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire, showcasing ancient stone walls standing amid a wide expanse of lush green grass. On the right, two slender birch trees with fresh spring leaves cast dappled shadows across the grass, creating a tranquil foreground. The ruined abbey walls in the middle and left of the frame display openings where windows and doors once stood, with some greenery and wild plants growing around their bases. Beyond the ruins, a fenced pasture stretches into the distance under a clear blue sky, dotted with grazing sheep, evoking a peaceful rural atmosphere rich in history and natural beauty.A bright, sunlit section of the ruins at Jervaulx Abbey, highlighting a tall, crumbling stone wall with large, arched window openings that once held stained glass. Ivy climbs parts of the weathered masonry, adding vibrant green contrast to the warm beige stone. The lower part of the wall features a series of smaller, pointed arches, some partially collapsed or filled in with rubble and plants. The foreground is a lush green lawn dotted with small white flowers, and the scene is framed by leafy tree branches overhead, casting some shadow. The vivid blue sky above emphasises the historic grandeur and peacefulness of this open-air architectural relic. The sunlit ruins of Jervaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire on a clear day with a vibrant blue sky. The focal point is a detailed stone archway with weathered carvings, partially covered by creeping ivy and surrounded by lush greenery. Beyond the arch, further crumbling stone walls and arches frame a grassy courtyard bathed in warm sunlight. The scene captures the rich texture of the ancient stonework, overgrown plants, and a peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere, evoking the abbeyโ€™s historic significance and quiet beauty. Shadows cast by the ruins create depth and contrast on the dirt path leading through the site.A sunlit interior corner of the ruins at Jervaulx Abbey, with towering stone walls that form a sharply angled space open to the sky above. The walls show signs of age and weathering, with textured stones covered in patches of lichen and moss. There are two large, pointed arch recesses carved into the walls, each framed with stepped, ornamental stonework. The ground is covered in bright green grass, dotted with small wildflowers and bordered by overgrown plants and ivy climbing parts of the stone. The vibrant blue sky and warm sunlight enhance the rich textures of the ancient masonry, creating a striking contrast between the solid, timeworn structure and the lively greenery within.

Did my semi-regular check of our instance finances, and due to global events, we're not looking great.

I'd estimate we have approx 3 months of hosting funds left.

Exchange rates, and a fall off in backers has led us to this situation.

So if you enjoy your time here, and can spare a few coins on a regular basis (or even just the odd one-off), it'd be appreciated.

Details of where to contribute are on the about page:

Just got back from a wee little birthday trip away! I'm 42 now. That's right, I am now the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

For my birthday we explored the Southern Uplands near Moffat, and boy were conditions glorious.

There's more photos from our time away, just go here and see what you think -> iancylkowski.com/blog/2025/4/2 ๐Ÿ‘

Further to the launch of my new Isle of Skye portfolio, 11-years in the making (iancylkowski.com/scottish-isla), let's highlight a few specific areas.

First, here's ๐—ฆ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป, one of the first true "wow" factors you come across when on the island. Here you get sweeping panoramas that take in both the Red and Black Cuillins.

There are also loads of rivers in the area, with delightful water features that lend themselves to amazing compositions.

A beautiful scene from Sligachan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, featuring a lively cascade of water flowing over dark, weathered rocks in the foreground. The light catches the water, giving it a silvery sheen as it tumbles down into a foamy pool. In the middle ground, rugged, orange-brown moorland rises gently, dotted with bushes and a solitary tree clinging to the rocky terrain. Towering in the background are dramatic, snow-capped peaks of the Black Cuillin mountains, partially shrouded in moody clouds, creating a striking contrast against the brighter foreground. This image, taken at Sligachan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, captures a lively stream tumbling over dark, rugged rocks, creating a series of small, frothy waterfalls in the foreground. The sunlight glints off the wet stones and water, adding a sparkle to the scene. In the foreground, weathered reddish rocks are dotted with smooth, water-filled potholes, leading the eye towards a gently flowing river sparkling in the sunlight. The scene is bathed in a warm, crisp light that highlights the rugged textures of the rocks and the golden-brown moorland stretching towards the distant mountains. This image, taken at Sligachan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, shows a charming old stone bridge with three arches spanning a shallow, rocky river under a brilliant blue sky. In the background, the broad, rounded slopes of the Red Cuillins rise steeply, their rugged surface catching the light and partially dusted with snow. The surrounding landscape is a tapestry of golden-brown moorland and patches of rough grass, while a few vehicles and a white building are visible near the roadside, hinting at the area's popularity with visitors.

@Guillotine_Jones That is so lovely, thank you so much!

Also, I suppose "skye" COULD be a "ye olde worlde" version of "sky", couldn't it? I think it's an Anglicization of the Gaelic name for the word that roughly translates to "misty isle", which is appropriate.
